I think most of you know, about 3 weeks ago I had a dispute with RBL. Just to let you know how childish I think he is, he blocked me out.
I know he has done this to other people. I thought you would get a good laugh out of it.:fencing:

Are you sure Sam, He changed the url a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't able to get in until I googled his name and brought up the BBS and signed in again. I then made a short cut on my desktop that now works,, He had a lot of people complaining about not being able to get in. He's starting a new forum on Google I think, I haven't tried it yet...

New URL for RBL's BBS.
Not much activity at the old BBS because
he is in process of switching over to a new forum.

Currently, the NEW RBL forum is a Google forum at the link below.

Just my opinion, but the Google groups forum is a step backwards
compared to the ease of use and features in the old RBL BBS. I think
that vBulletin is best choice for operating a forum these days.
I did a study of the Google groups forums and they do provide a
means for recruiting new members, but from what I've seen, the
members either don't stick around or they don't post very much.

Your RIGHT ON Pete! I found out that I had a membership already on Google (and his earlier attempt at Yahoo) and NEVER remember using it. That was from back in 02!
I have kind of left RBL's site behind (I hope Alan doesn't miss me too much :D ).
He had experimented with a "true" BBS earlier in the year that was very promising. Along the same line as here (maybe he was lurking and did NOT want to concede that he was surrendering to OUR SIDE  )!

I actually hadn't been there in weeks, and going back to this shocker site, it just seems like a big pile of ads with some topics inbetween and so frightfully disorganized at that. I realize the old BBS had only a one topic range, but you could see the topics of the threads where as here it just looks like a jumble...I could swear he had said the final version will have no ads also.. I feel badly as it was agreat institution in it's day. With tech though it is so impossible to be "a one man band" today, and he didn't value his "techies" at all and most deserted him rather than pay homage.

We left the past behind for a reason...
I have never looked back!
The best of what was came here and got even better!
The empty shell we left behind has turned to dust.

When I visit the other site(s) I just shake my head in amazement. I was never a big fan of the ancient WebBoard software but it got the job done. The new Google Groups is just hideous; it may have a few desirable features but its layout and presentation are chaotic.
And chaotic defines the migration plan, if there is one. A major faux pas was changing the url for the old board which causes occasional users like Sam to lose contact. There never has been a formal announcement other than 'Try this'. It appears there is a plan to maintain both boards.

I don't have a problem telling anyone what I think...
We had a loyal group there who were insulted and abused despite the fact that we were the ones carrying the water for the whole thing.
Other than the fact that we were not paying for the hosting, it was left for us to keep it alive for quite a few years, which went along just fine, until intervention, power plays, and pure stupidity entered the scene.
For our new KH members, please understand that the core here came from a very respectible bbs where we contributed much as we do here, freely and openly. When "owner intervention", insults, and idiocy took over, we decided it was time to leave. That bbs software sucked and we could never accomplish the things we always wanted. Great archives were lost. Great people were lost. The crisis reached boiling point after some of our best contributors were insulted and belittled beyond belief and the rest of us had just had enough. We jumped ship, and with the capable stewardship of Adam (Smokey) were able to start our own bbs and move into a much improved new home.
We have accomplished many of the ideals and goals that were always lacking at "that other place" for a much improved and much better bbs.
I, for one, have never looked back (or gone back) just to see how bad things deteriorated, nor have I ever cared.
We left and that was that. Those who have followed, I believe, have found a much more satisfying experience here. We have far exceeded anything that was ever done there, done it better, and have a much more pleasant atmosphere without any of the bs.
Long live KH!
