View Full Version : More frequent Paltalk?

I was wondering for a while why Paltalk is only 1 time per week at the same time. While the time is usually convenient for everyone in the US in the Central and Eastern time zone, there are a lot of people in other time zones, so wouldn't it be nice to have the KH chat room open more often and/or at differing times?
The Firefox extension Yakalike is nice, but not everyone can/will use Firefox and I'm having some problems with it and might stop using it. :(

The chatroom can be a nice place to gather... providing someone wants to open and man it.
This is simply a matter of having the admin pw.
The room will close when the last admin leaves.
Having a permenant (open all the time) room in PT is another matter and fees attached.
We (admins) sometimes open it to talk among ourselves when needed as it is handy.
If enough people are willing/want to open and use it
(and carry all admin responsibility while there), it is something we can further discuss.
If the room was open on a more regular basis, more people might open their Pal Talk and logon just because someone else is there.

Another alternative....
TeamSpeak is a VOIP program I use for gaming.
Sound is excellent.
Setup isn't difficult.
The only requirement would be running a Teamspeak server on our site.
You install the client and setup your logon, which isn't difficult.
The only thing is, it would be private to KH members and there would be no outside visitors. You have to be registered with the server to logon.

I was thinking about joining in for the Wednesday sessions; however, VoIP does not work well over a satellite connection…
Any suggestions?

You can just type; that's what I do.
In which time zone are some of you? I'm in Central US time (-6:00) and I know many members (and maybe all moderators?) are from Eastern US time (-5:00).
I'm not sure if I should make a new thread for this, but why was my name in green (or some other color) last Paltalk session? Everyone else was in black.

I did it for year over satellite and it was a problem at times, but not always. Since I also have a 56k connection, I used that for Paltalk. Why not get a free isp if you don't currently have one. I have a $9.95 isp not for when Dsl is down as it never is, I have it to test client pc's when there's doesn't work right and I want to be sure it isn't their isp creatring the problem. I use Localnet and seldom even pay the monthly fee as I recommend users to it all the time and they give me free months for doing so.

Historically we had all we could do to keep regulars coming back weekly and there were weeks we would go in and no one showed by 10PM EST so we closed down. we considered going bi-weekly and even monthly last fall.
Lately participation has been much better and I would be open to more times and more Admins as well. I think we could take a survey to see what other nights or days people would favor, but what we have always found in the past is people respond who never show up, or we get no response at all. I certainly am willing to try to expand it as I have always felt it was our greatest asset.

I had a new image installed on my laptop so I had to install the newest version of Paltalk last week. I didn't like the new version at all so I removed Paltalk from the laptop. The software was much too evasive in my opinion. I didn't like Paltalk running when I started the laptop. I couldn't find a method to change this preference in the software. Is the paid version of Paltalk easier to configure and without ads?

You can stop Paltalk from starting w/ Windows either through it or Start | Run | msconfig.
I don't see any of Paltalks ads, either, probably due to my hosts file.

John,
I use Mike Lyn Startup and Win Patrol and I just delete the startup entries Paltalk installs and have never had a problem doing so.

I use the same program by Mike Lin, but didn't see any files in startup from Paltalk. I searched the preferences in Paltalk, but didn't see any option to prevent the program from starting when windows starts.

Paltalk puts a program in the StartUP folder under Docs and Settings/All Users/Startup Menu/Programs/Startup.
I found that when I put together my Photographers Demo unit and I installed the new version.
The one thing that Pi$$es me off is the darn request to UPGRADE to their paid version EVERYTIME I launch paltalk on Wednesday nights. Only got asked that once in the old version. Maybe they will correct that in the future. Afterall, IF I wanted to upgrade, I know how to do that when I am in Paltalk - I don't need to asked that EVERYTIME I launch!

I've thought so in the past, Dan, but now I'm absolutely positive that you are "special"! .... :hail: .... or maybe I'm being discriminated against? .... :suspicious: .... I frequently get asked to upgrade Paltalk, but not EVERY TIME! :hurt:
I'm running the 8.3 version of Paltalk? Are you?

I am running 8.3 and the request is there everytime also. Dan , is it that much of a hardship to press "NO" for something we are using for nothing?
Isn't it kind of like the spam filter you and I use?
