We were 4th in Paltalk rooms most of the night, one away for a tie for 3d place. The session went into overtime, and I closed the room at 12:37.

WHO WAS THERE

KH members: Doug, Dan, Rich, Kern (rbob), Photolady, Elliot, Loop, Rob Cohan, Fred, and Lina.

Surprise visitor: Fred's wife, Judy, dropped in for a brief hello. (Fred had assured Rob Cohan that she's still beautiful and smart. She was gracious, just like Fred. Seems they both picked winners!)

Participating visitors: Kattyy, Wizard Jay, Detective Linux, Davenext, Kurtland Georgia

DISCUSSED

Our KH Kickenhardware Learning Group Forum

- It needs tweaking--spell check, archives, old news on home page (needs updating), return of original user list, and more.

- Home page contains items picked up by search engine crawlers so we may not be able to merge Home and Forum pages.

- Adam (Smokey; i.e, Administrator) is aware of need, but is very busy and has limited time right now.

- We need to get things done before membership grows much more.

Rob Cohan Registration

- Rob is not a new member; he joined in August 2005. We reactivated his user last night; but until he posts something, he will not show as an active user.

- That's why the original user list from our old board must be put back. Until someone posts on VBulletin software, they do not show as an active user.

Photography

- digital vs film

- Rich recommended these photo web sites:
http://vermontcolor.com/kmail.htm
http://www.vermontcolor.com/

Presidential Freedom Medal for Lina

- I'm now a Paltalk KH Computer Help Desk admin!

- I'm usually the last one to leave the chatroom. As an admin I can close it. We didn't want to leave it open, exposed for mischief.

- I'll leave the disciplinary options to the other admins. I had enough disciplining my troops as a WAC nco and later trying to stay one step ahead of my seven teenage children. No more!

- BTW, can one admin take disciplinary action against another admin? We joked that there may be too many chiefs and no Indians.

Lina's AV Problem

- Rich agreed that I should drop Kaspersky and upgrade my trial version of Nod 32 to the full version.

- I will ask for a refund for the remaining 9 months on the Kaspersky subscription, telling them I encountered upgrade problems, system drag, etc. I won't have to tell them how computer-challenged I am and how I screwed up--they will easily surmise that! Wish me luck!

Sending Credit Card Numbers via Email

- Not a good idea!

- If you absolutely have to, divide the credit card number in 3 parts, and forward each part in 3 different emails.

Vista

- Rich became so disgusted with it, he unplugged the hd and reformatted!

Dan Still Looking for Solution

- His post is supposed to be in networking topic listing, but I could not find it.

- Here's what Dan told us: "I have been knocking my brains out (along with the IT administrator at the Nursing home) on going through their VLAN to establish a dedicated VPN for the Pharma. They won't give me a WAN static IP from outside to negotiate. We are having to go through their VLAN and I keep getting timing out errors on authenticating the shared IKE."

- Ideas, anyone?

Laptops

- HP, Compaq, or IBM, yes

- Sony, great (Rob Cohan)

- Not Gateway

- Acer, garbage

- Not Dell? From Doug: Dude, your Dell just exploded...http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3053

- Toshiba, big-time troubles.

- Photolady rebuilt a company's Toshiba, tore it down completely, soldered the new connector for power and rebuilt it.

- Photolady just installed XP Pro on a Sony Vaio; it was easy, but she wiped out everything sony on it, except drivers. It was easy to get to the harddrive too.

Photolady's Truck

- Chevy S10 1994 has 238789.4 miles on motor

- Transmission broken, costing a bundle to fix, gets it back Friday

- Good luck, Photolady!

Vocabulary Lesson

- Ever hear of "moof"? ...... no, it's not a cow barking.

- Photolady says it means "mo dem off line." From the old days when everyone was on a modem.

Interesting, Persistent Visitor

- "Davenext" PM'd me (after I became an admin). Wanted to know who the room owner was. Wanted to immediately become an admin! I referred him to Rich.

- Davenext typed in he was in northern "Irland," was 21 years of age, posted url for his web site, wanted us to leave a message in his message board, was a pc tech, worked in a pc shop, knew loads about pcs, didn't need any help!..... wanted to become one of our admins!

(Maybe when he saw the @ before my name, he thought we were handing out admin privileges like candy?)

- He kept asking who the room owner was. Our Dapper Dan told him, "it is a joint venture to keep us off the streets." Rich chimed in, "So we don't steal hub caps?"

- Rich must have impressed him. Davenext said Rich could add him to his pal list! Rich politely turn him down. Maybe he'll be back next week?

- He was invited to join our forum and work his way up.

- Kudos to our members for their sense of humor, patience, and courtesy.

Hot Weather, Cataracts, Filtering Water, Chelation, and More

- Like our forum, we were all over the place!

Sorry, I did not fully understand or get all the computer topics discussed. Some were above my head; some threads were difficult to follow because too many of you use the same size and color font when typing in the text box.

Until next week, take care of yourselves, stay cool,

Lina

Terry, no TIVO, just Basic (!) cable. VCR doesn't work.

Probably didn't miss much. Soap operas are like politics. Tune in a day, week, month, or year later, and it's like a rerun.....victims are still getting screwed, hanging on for dear life, waiting for the guy on the white horse to rescue them. :)

Yes, truck is back home now. Went and got it this morning. :) :) :) I'm happy, can you tell? LOL

And Lina, I am also an Admin for paltalk now. Rich fixed me up with this. I will use it mostly when we all gather or for when someone can't be there.

Great news, photolady. .... :clap2:

Have you received your Presidential Freedom Medal yet? .... :usa2:

What does "mostly" mean? If I don't behave, will you ban me for the night? Remember, you'd have to take notes and write the summary then. ....

Tortanick, thanks for the input. Sorry you can't make our chatroom sessions.

How about starting a thread on how to encrypt three credit card emails? (I'll need dumbed-down directions.).... :)

Only if you PM me to remind me to PM you.:)

Seriously, if I don't have another senior moment or senior blackout, will do.....but don't count on it, I'm afraid.

I don't think I could ever ban you for the night or other nights on paltalk Lina.......Just those Id10t's we get.

Rich said for me to log in everytime as admin, guess I will. I forgot he said that. Now who's having a senior moment? LOL

Have you received your Presidential Freedom Medal yet? Naw, I'll let you have that privilege.

Kudos for this excellent summary.:clap2::clap2: And my wife thanks you for these kind remarks. Actually, she was a attracted to Rob Cohan's resonant voice or maybe to Rob himself. Her sister is renting a house in San Diego next summer, and suddenly now my wife wants to go out there to visit.
Ya never know!:bump2:

Rob does have a resonant voice--and a great sense of humor. But I don't think you have anything to worry about, Fred. I'm sure you have many equally if not superior redeeming qualities....;)
