A few months ago I set up a network at someone house. They were on Comcast cable. I installed a Linksys router and a network printer with static IP address of 192.168.1.150.

This guy has moved into his new house. Verizon was there today and installed the FIOS using their own router. He's unable to print to his network printer. So I'll be there tomorrow to get it working. I don't know that Verizon left the manual for their router.

Does anyone know how to get into the FIOS routers? What IP, user name, password?

thanks - tony d

Tony,

I am not sure but FIOS may have a static ip address assigned that you need to pass thru to the router. Verizon's tech support is FANTASTIC (at least the guys I have dealt with lately) and they will assist you in getting everything passed thru.

The nice think is that they support the Linksys as their routers of choice back in the DSL days.

I completed the job this morning. The big problem was that the guy works from his house and has a company owned computer which he has no admin access to. When I set up the printer a couple months ago it was with a Linksys router which uses 192.168.1.X. I set the static IP of his networked printer to 192.168.1.150 and worked with his company to set up the printer and port.

Out goes Comcast, in comes FIOS. They had a D-Link DI-624 installed. Using ipconfig, I realized that the router was using 192.168.0.x (as opposed to ...1.x) addressees. The address netting explained why he couldn't print.

So I needed to change the network IP addresses or work with his company IT to change port settings on his computer. Initially I couldn't get into the router because my notes show the default D-Link credentials as admin and leave password blank.

Called Verizon, and yes they were helpful. The credential for this unit are admin and password. Once I got in, I was able to change the network setting and all is good.

What I didn't like about this wireless router is that you can't, or I didn't see where, turn off SSID broadcasting. Otherwise it was OK.

btw: When Verizon did the installation, they connected the router to two computers and a network printer. Although all of these were in the same room, it took some effort to run the cables to the various areas of the room. They neatly staples the cables along the wall moulding. I thought they would only install one computer to the router. Maybe he paid extra?

Hmm, I am wondering IF I could use one of my SonicWall routers WHEN I get FIOS? ? ?

I use them to connect to T-1 as long as there is a DSU/CSU present - otherwise I will have to use an Cisco router to hand off the ip addresses IF THEY ARE STATIC.

Tony, did you find out if FIOS is static or not?

Sorry, but I didn't find out if FIOS is static. I'm guessing it's statice. I have a number you can try: (877) 605-0166.

FIOS system gives you a wireless router. I've seen two different routers that they provide and the tech I spoke with at Verizon said they only offer 2 routers. One is that D-Link that I saw. My neighbor has the other model. It's not any brand that I've heard of and it's big and ugly.
