Hello everyone,

Is anyone else having any problems with this drive not playing movies or stopping in the middle of a movie. My drive is doing this and it driving me nuts, I did try the flimware update and that was no help at all. I am starting to think this drive is a lemon.

Paul

P.S.
I also called HP's techsupport and that was a big waste of time.

I don't know anything about this drive but here is a forum where they are talking about it. Maybe some help.

I just picked up a Samsung 16x CDRW with Light scribe at Newegg for $31.99. This was a couple of days ago so I don't know what the price is today but that's a good place to look.

Best at a price I use is LG and the overall best is Plextor. I have the original cdrw I first bought which is a Plextor, it's just too slow to use anymore but it would not die. Lite-ons croak quickly, Sony's are no good anymore and most of what Worst Buy and Short Circuit City carry, I would not buy.
Nec are fine and never had a problem with Samsung either.

BenQ is pretty good stuff. May want to check over at Club CD Freaks.

Good Evening Gentlemen, of course if you were after a decent drive you would consider Sony primarily.
LOL! Reliable Stuff!
Cheers, qldit.

I just bought the LG double/dual 16X GSA H10LI at Worst Buy for $39.99 (no #%&@^%%! rebates!). 'Sale' ends Sat. 19th.

Well I think they used to be, but not recently I have had terrible luck with them, and you know at the prices they sell at, I seriously doubt Sony is making their own anyway, the act just like Lite-Ons do.

Good Evening mylanta, I run a couple of Late Model Sony's with no problem, I have a Samsung and have fitted a lot more also which were no problem (because of the price) but I have had two LG's that have been nothing but problems.
One repeatedly loses itself and fails to appear in My Computer, yet if the thing is unplugged and rebooted it returns to normal.

This is a periodic problem, I took it out of a clients machine for the same problem and kind of got stuck with the damned thing. It happens often if the macine is booted with a DVD still in it.
So LGs are off the ordering list nowdays.

Traditionally I have always preferred Sony, I have fitted dozens of them and really had no problems.
We don't see a lot of the brands you chaps might see, so Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Pioneer, Mitsubishi, LG and LiteOn are about it.
The order of Sony, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Pioneer, Lite-on, LG, Panasonic and Philips is the kind of the pecking order.
But everyone has different experiences.

Panasonics have a nasty habit of dying early had 3 out of 7 die within twelve months with just occasional use. So they are off the ordering list also.

As you mention different batches of the same drives are simply branded differently. LOL.
I always liked Mitsumi drives but don't often see them these days.

There are a few BENQs around but they seem to be rare.
Chances are most of the components are common anyway and the are all robot constructed!

Probably tossing a coin would be a good idea!

Wow I always used Sony's and had everyone die in my own systems rather quickly so I started with LG last year and had no problems. maybe it's different oxygen "down under"?

The reason I recommended Samsung was because of Lightscribe. I believe he was looking for another with Lightscribe and the Samsung was the cheapest that I saw with it...
