View Full Version : Tracing Stamp In Word Documents
Not sure how to technically ask but the general question is about the placement of "a digital stamp" in all MS Word documents sent as email or eletronically that acts as a way to tell what computer composed that document.
I understand there is a way to stop Word from doing that. If anyone understands just what I am alluding to please what is the method of stopping it?
Thanks in advance,
Dizz

Go here for starters: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223396/ to minimize meta data and hidden identifiers from Word and other MS Office documents. Of course, MS will not tell you how to remove all traces and I do believe there are some 3rd party sources for that. One of the reasons, I usually send a PDF although I bet it too has some meta identifier.
Try here also: http://snipurl.com/WordGUIDetc
Thanks Fred. Someone I know says that only when he composes email in Word or has to send an attachment of a document composed in Word due to his business needs he copies the Word document into Notepad. He says notepad strips out any hidden info or stamps or meta files as a matter of the way Notepad works.
He went on to say that many people do that with Word documents at work and have done so for quite awhile.
I cannot tell if that is a valid method but "mebbe" you or one of the BBS members knows enough about software to tell.
Thanks a bunch

Notepad strips everything, but then you lose all of your formatting. All email has tracing info and you would be sending to someone you know anyhow, so what is the point of cleaning it up? Unless you have become a member of the nefarious spammers, all email can be traced. AFAIK, if you copy and paste a Word Doc and embed it into email, you lose the hidden identifiers and also if you save as RTF, I believe you also lose the hidden identifiers.
