Just glanced at an article in Computer Shopper about Vista that gives some of the new things included. What caught my eye was something called "ReadyBoost" where you attach external Flash Memory to increase your system memory. Like I said I haven't had time to read the whole article but I thought that was fascinating. Anybody know anything about it?

Do you mean with USB 2.0? If so, it would not be nearly as fast as regular RAM (especially fast DDR2).

Yes it does specify USB2.0. It says plug in a USB 2.0 Thumb drive and ReadyBoost will let you combine the available flash memory with system memory...

Won't that be as bad or worse than the speed of a paging file? SATA II is around 300 MBps max (megabytes per second), USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps (megabits per second) max=60 MBps, and flash drives don't get near that?

Will this be done with a normal USB flash drive? If so, will it be like a paging file with the way it works?

I'm holding off on building a new PC until the holiday season. Any prices on Vista yet and a release date?

John,

Which of the SEVEN versions are you looking to install? ? ? ? ?

Like I ALWAYS say - WAIT until M$ releases the first COMMERCIAL version WITH a service pack - by then you will see the versions peter away and know which one(s) are going to be the M$ "flagship" version(s).

Just think what would happened if we were talking about Windows ME John, you would be waiting for a DEAD operating system (REMEMBER ME NEVER had a service pack release and died!).

Go with XP (your version of choice) and be happy to have a system that will FLY!
