In the course of using FF last night, a pop-up appeared asking me for a profile. I chose the default profile, but got an error saying it was in use. Therefore, I created a new profile with a different name.
Where is my old profile? I lost my bookmarks, quick links on the toolbar, cookies, etc. No biggie, but where is my old profile? Is there a command line startup or a file in the FF folder or where?

Found it with the help of http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile
However, step #5 below was incorrect and here are the correct steps:
Shut down Firefox completely (File > Exit).
Move the profile folder to the desired location. For example, on Windows, move the profile from C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default to D:\Stuff\MyProfile. If you are reading these instructions because you want to restore a previously backed up profile, this step isn't necessary. Just note the current location of the profile you want to restore.
Open up profiles.ini in a text editor. The file is located in the application data folder for Firefox:
On Windows XP/2000, the path is %AppData% (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/#appdata)\Mozilla\Firefox\
On Windows 95/98/Me, the path is usually C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\
On Linux, the path is ~/.mozilla/firefox/
On Mac OS X, the path is ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
In profiles.ini, locate the entry for the profile you've just moved. Change the Path= line to the new location.
StartWithLastProfile=0 'instead of 1 (in my case and corrected) _
'Original instructions NOT correct
Save profiles.ini and restart Firefox.

Now, how do I import the bookmarks from the old profile into the new profile --- not that there are many since last night, but how is this done?
Try this:
Open FF using the new profile. Go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks... > in the new window, select File > Import... > select From File > click Next > navigate to bookmarks.html in your Application Data folder (e.g., %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.defaul t\bookmarks.html, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters) > click Open, and that should do the trick ;)
To find the correct profile, go to Start > Run > type %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\ > click OK, and open the folder with the original profile. You can check to see if the bookmarks.html file contains the bookmarks you want to import by double-clicking the file.
Hope this helps, Fred.
