Router slows down Internet

I was working at someone's house on Friday. Comcast Internet connection to her desktop was good. Installed D-Link wireless router and wired desktop really took a speed hit. The wirelessly connected laptop had a good connection.

So I wonder why going thru the router slowed the machine so much - it was clearly noticable. Next time I'm there I'll bring another router.

Did you go through all the settings to be certain you were calling for as much speed as possible, or accept defaults. There is no reason for that otherwise except a bad router.

I just accepted defaults. I think router issue because the desktop worked well when connected directly, so it's not the desktop or Internet connection. Also the wireless laptop worked well. Oh - maybe a bad cable. Will look into it next time I'm there and will bring spare router to substitute.
