I was doing an Incremental backup of my "C" drive to the "E" drive where I store them. At the end of the Incremental backup, I had a message that there were errors.

I tried to re-run the Incremental Backup and got the following error:
You cannot create files in the folder "My Computer". Please choose another location.

The file Location is set to: E:\C-BKUP-08-01-06.tib (This being the full backup)

I then did a warm boot and retried. I got the same error.
I also tried doing an Incremental Backup of the "D" drive. This time the file location read: E:\D-BKUP-08-01-06.tib.

Again I got the same Fatal error.

Should I try re-installing Acronis?

Sam

Sorry to ask a seemingly stupid question but is E drive full?

Sam,
That has to be the external drive...just for SAG, try it on the other internal sata drive, as I am wondering if it's the drive or the port perhaps, since that makes no sense at all. Do you always use the drive letter in the name of the file incidentally? I am also wondering something else...Try making a new backup, not an incremental on the E also as I am wondering if twhat you are adding to is corrupted and there is a way in Acronis to verify if the the image file is ok. Also wondering if there is a limit to the amount of incrementals. How many incrementals are there to the original? I never use incrementals so I am guessing at this point but that gives you some things to try. Also if by chance the external drive is the problem, try changing the connection as that drive is usb and 1394...I meant to tell you consensus is to leave the external off when not using as techs are convinced they last longer that way, and I don't see why reinstalling Acronis would make a difference but you could try booting to rescue disk and seeing if that works also.

1) Contact Acronis and ask them.
2) Maybe the original backup that you're incrementing is corrupted. The error message doesn't indicate that, but you never know. Have you tried doing a new backup? If you don't want to do a new full backup, try backing up just a single folder.
3) Yes - an uninstall / reinstall wouldn't hurt

Well -- you ready for the result. Let me 1st say, when you work with your system for a while, you expect and take for granted certain things.

Since I purchased this new system, in "My Computer" I always had a "C, D, and E" drive. I take those for granted. Somehow, someway, the "E" drive was not showing. I unplugged it, re-plugged and now it is showing again. I re-ran the incremental backup on "E" and it worked.

That's funny Sam...however from all this, keep the drive unplugged when not in use, it will last longer.

Rich,
Interesting comment(s) about externals. My q is there a way to power down ('park' in the old days) an external other than shuting it off or removing the power connector? See (I am sure you will) my post on my external IDE/USB.

Why is there always a fatal error message at the end or the last minute?:confused::confused:

I was doing an Incremental backup of my "C" drive to the "E" drive where I store them. At the end of the Incremental backup, I had a message that there were errors.

I tried to re-run the Incremental Backup and got the following error:
.
