I am being told that replacing laptop keys never work like the original keyboard and therefore it would be better if the entire keyboard would be replaced, is this true? If not, how can I go about making sure the replacements fit properly? I had tried replacing laptop keys before but they didn't fit right.

Mike, I have no experience in this area. However, I'd replace the keys in question (I assume you're only going to replace a few) and see how it responds. If you're not satisified, you can replace the keyboard.

Mike,

I recently replaced an entire (may be refurbished) Dell keyboard, which was very easy and straightforward. Cost directly from Dell was ~$30.

The problem with this is that the keys are not available anymore from Sony for this particular Sony Vaio laptop and our search produced only one seller who has the keys for sale and he is located in Britain, the cost of the replacement keys plus the shipping is what we are considering, a keyboard itself will cost over $60 without shipping but the 4 keys will cost over $20 unfortunately so it won't be cheap for us to get those keys to take a chance on it fitting properly.

If I could replace the entire keyboard for $60 versus replacing a few keys for $20 I'd replace the entire keyboard. What happens when you replace a few keys and discover you need to replace a few more in a few months??? With a new keyboard you should get decent life from the product for a long time.

Yep, that's why we haven't purchased the keys!
