View Full Version : Poll?

chryssi2001

Is it possible to make a poll to see whether enough members could join a Paltalk meeting "Europe time" on weekend and if this could work?

What's your opinion about it?

As per this (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3600) suggestion..

[QUOTE]As most of us here came from a Philadelphia,PA area group, we have always been GMT -4 oriented.

This does cause some difficulty now that we have such an "international" membership.

The ROOM always exists, it just requires an Admin to open it. We generally only meet on Wed nights but have, on special occasion, opened it at other times.

If there is enough interest, we would seriously consider an Admin in another location/ time zone who would be interested in manning the fort during an appropriate time period "over there". Admin duties are not difficult and easily defined. Mostly opening/closing the room and bouncing any troublemakers.[QUOTE]

The suggestion was for being Admin/Mod me and&or you BM. So because we both work, i thought about Saturday or Sunday which we both don't work, but if any one could handle it on a different day it's fine by me.
Just being at night time which it's the time most of European can attend.

While having alternate "sessions" of our PT chat open is great advertising for KH, as we have gained membership from it, I would suggest, or mandate, that you first join us a few times during the 'regular' sessions just to get a grasp of how it works and how to manage it.

While we seldom have any serious problems, you do get the 'drive-by' PITA nut cases who just room surf to annoy people. We show extreme tollerance with language and totally clueless problems but maintain a firm hand on any deliberate troublemakers. The room Admins must be prepared to pounce on them and boot them promptly.

Alternate PT sessions for different time zones would undoubtedly increase our traffic as we generally have a high ranking room number and many visitors.

If you are game to go for it, I am all for it.
We will be glad to educate you on the background and intent of KH and how to handle the room.

I think Moderating it together and helping each other would be nice, since you have sharp claws lol i depend on you for the troublemakers. And maybe i need some help with language problems.. you see i am not english spoken borned.
The most important for us is to be able to attend the usual PT so we see how it works.
We'll see after the poll is over!!

More frequent Paltalk would be nice as well. True, not all of the members could join each one, but I have a part-time job with different days each week + a varying amount of homework from my physical school and two online AP classes and can't always attend Paltalk Wed. night.

I just wonder, if it will be possible for members with good knowledge on computers to join a 2nd Paltalk meeting so it will serve it's purpose since they have to be there at Europe time.
As tough it is for Europe members to attend the paltalk due to several hours difference, the same stands for USA members.

Members in Europe are the proper ones because they can log-in our time, so i suppose when the poll is over and if it's finally decided there is going to be a Paltalk in Europe time (not taking anything for granted yet) Moderators here will check this matter out i believe because it's a must.

Just to chime in here I think this would be a great idea...the Admins need to be rules oriented mostly but of course it would be better to have a "help desk" guru or two as well. Please remember you are al free to invite anyone you want to join us on Paltalk and KH, just be careful to remind them no one is looking to steal members, just add another resource to their avenue of internet resources.

Using Paltalk for a 2nd chat in Europe is out of the question.
I personally had a lot of worm attacks since downloading it..see my post here (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=10701#post10701) so another messenger should be used.

A. none of us have ever experienced that and can't explain your infection. Adware and PT netaware are easily blocked out. Did you save/list specific malware information?
B. Pal Talk is an established KH chat room used for many years as an adjunct and membership draw.
C. I seriously doubt we will be using any other chat program.

Chryssi,
Paltalk has been our means for this for over 9 years running, and no one has ever reported any such thing, not even once. Can't possibly have anything to do with Paltalk anyway. I used Kaspersky and was a beta tester for them for 2 years running. still get their memos and have never had anything from Kav, nor read a single warning about it. I can tell you that all 3 (Nod, Kav and Bit defender) occasionally get a bit out of touch and point to things that are no virus as false positives, of which the most notable is java cache, which all 3 used to point to as worms, a problem I know Nod32 solved.

chryssi2001

The warning i get is this:
Network attack intrusion.win.MSSQL.worm.Helkern from address 59.44.219.6 and everytime the IP address changes. I've written down today 5 different addresses.

chryssi,
as Doug and Rich have said, we have been using Paltalk for over 8 years and have not had any issues with malware.

chryssi2001
09-11-2006, 11:24 PM
Yes, i know, and contrary to what i wrote, it can't be possible a messenger service with around 60,000 persons using it, to have malware or virus.
At the moment i am trying to clean my desktop infection from Bruce5 files, and i've fixed Karpersky settings, so i won't see those warnings again.
After my computer will be ok i will try to install Paltalk again and i will post back.

With the vulnerabilities and increase in attacks via IMs over the last couple years, many of us have discontinued using them entirely.

They suck resources, invade your machine with all kinds of junk and adware, and open holes and portals through your defenses.
I really don't like to be instantly "available" for interruption by often idle and meaningless "chat".
I get a kick out of watching people who can't seem to get a thing done trying to keep up with six chat windows going with multiple conversations and a bluetooth headphone hooked to their cell phone growing out of their head.

Must be a trait that comes with age as I notice it more and more in my elderly patients. They only talk when they have something to say and don't engage in idle conversation without substance. Guess I'm getting old...

Ok thank you i will. Maybe i'll wake up 6.00 tomorrow morning, it's around 2 hours after Paltalk meeting starts, maybe you are still there. No promises, though might be sleepy.

P.S. Just tried the link, doesn't work, will try again later.
I realised why the link is not working. It needs correction. It's Palltalk with 2 L and not Paltalk. In the site now but the site to register can't open. Internet traffic...it's red lol

Yep, http://www.download.com/1200-2017-5142881.html is easier
to navigate. It's the latest version.

Kern and other mods: Perhaps we'd best change all reference

Both of you are using very slow heavily spammed free email accounts. It is possible they see the KH email address as spam and are booting them.
You might try changing your email address to your real one and see if that makes a difference. Everything is checked right in your user panels so I cannot think of another reason you would not get them.

Wednesday nite is a terrible fit for me. Family obligations prevent me from being there most weeks. I really like the idea of another time to be able to jump in and help/be helped. Especially if it could be a time when both Europeans and Americans could feasibly attend- weekends or late afternoon here (late evening over in Europe). 9-12 PM in Europe, 4-7 America. I'd bet that many of our regulars would show up on the afternoon/weekend show as well.

I see nothing wrong with having an extension of K&H in another time zone. I'm sure it would be accessible to all. Wednesday nights are bad for me to join in on the current PayPal show. By having it in another time zone, it would give me the opportunity to join in.
