This strange quirk has me puzzled.
At some point overnight, machines not being actively used, the Netgear router seems to be losing connection with SB5100 cable modem.
Network connections to other machines are all fine and working.
Router status screen shows IP still present but subnet mask, DHCP and DNS servers are zeroed out. Lease has not expired or attempted to renew.
Release/renew usually brings it back up.
Modem is connected and active (by the lights) and still talking to the router. Router lights indicate it is still actively connected to modem.
Modem logs show no errors.
Sometimes have had to reboot modem and router.
ONLY happens overnight and not all the time.
It has never done it while any of the machines were active or accessing the web. Only the connection between router and modem.
Nothing in event logs on any of the machines.
Can't say for sure whether it is the router, the modem, or Comcast. They have a nasty habit of doing maintenance overnight and sometimes dropping off for a bit but the modem is still connected.
I asked the dog if he has been playing with the router at night but he denies having anything to do with it. The cat is under suspiscion as he gave me one of those sly cat looks and slipped out of the room.
