Hey everyone,

I would like to share this software combo with all of you. Since running this package on this system, I'm convinced it works well in Windows XP Pro w/SP1.

Use CCleaner w/Abexo Registry Cleaner. All is freeware, and it's helped my workstation! All be it in certain aspects, but it did speed up noticeably. Found at download.com (http://download.com/).

Beware of running Abexo in a XP Limited User Account. Will not complete.

Hope It Helps! :flame:

Is Abexo Registry Cleaner fully automatic and does it make backups of anything it changes?

Reg cleaners, and some of them are rully automated with no user control or selection, can really farkle your registry.

I have relied on JV16 as it has been the most reliable for years. It, by default, makes it's own backup of any keys you delete and you can easily undo any changes made.

JV16 is one of the few products that can scrub out an uninstall where leftover junk from the software uninstall leaves behind a multitude of reg keys where problems happen after the uninstall because leftover reg keys not removed still point to the missing software.

Sorry,
I have had too many systems hosed by trusted products like jv16, there is no way I will run or suggest anyone else run a reg cleaner to scan and clean registry.

Ditto on that.

All registry "cleaners" are potentially very dangerous, and it's a myth that they will increase performance. In theory they can speed up the registry...by about 2 nano seconds! In other words, nothing that one will notice. There are far better performance increasing techniques that aren't dangerous.

Yep I have a stock answer on forums for folks asking about registry cleaners and that is to suggest if they need to clean something, they can clean their rooms or clean their closets, but under no circumstances clean their registries. The registry is the heart and soul of your system, don't screw with it if you are not capable of rebuilding or restoring it.

If any of you feel this is a bad suggestion, just delete the damn thread.

Actually Spawn, I've been using and recommending Ccleaner for years. I just don't recommend that the average user use it's reg cleaner, or any other reg cleaner for that matter.

Spawn,
Like many other things this is simply a matter of opinion and opinions we do not delete here....

Reg cleaners are either necessary or dangerous.
A bad reg cleaner can strip out VITAL and absolutely necessary keys and without those keys, your system is hosed or things won't work.

If you have a "leftover" from some program you uninstalled and it is causing problems, reg cleaning may be the only way to clean it and fix the problem.

Again, the reason I suggest JV16 is the backup function built into it where you can recover easily from any mistakes.
I would also recommend having a fresh image file on hand before attempting any registry modifications of any kind.
