In my city, the dominating ISP gives a out a wireless router that can be accessed by simply entering "home" in the address bar. Once in, the router has a function to increase the power output. By default it's on 4, but it can be raised to 12. I've successfully used this function to clear up many wireless network problems.

So I was just thinking, do you know if all routers have a power output option available by entering the default gateway?

I haven't seen a router where you can change the power output. (But I really haven't seen a lot of different routers either. They usually have channel selection. Can this be what you're looking at? What model is it?

No. It's a power output option that increases the signal strength of the transmitted signal. It's under the heading of "Advanced Network Setup". In Canada, output power of transmitting device is regulated by a federal body called the FCC. I imagine the USA has similar standards.

It's likely that the default setting of 4 is well below the regulated maximum, and the highest setting of 12 is the regulated maximum.

I haven't noticed any manufacturers name on these routers, but they seem to be of very high quality and also have dual internal antennas.

I'm going to check out the advanced options on my router just as soon as I'm done downloading a large file. I'm using an Inexo router that was given to me for free.
