DVD playback is dark

I just installed a Sony DVD RW in a Windows 2K machine. Installed the Nero sw that came with it. I'm playing a movie DVD and it's a bit dark. Is this normal? I haven't used Windows to view a movie before.

I wouold say that is not normal though I don't think I have ever watched a movie without a separate player be it Win Dvd or Cyberlink, which usually comes free with drives incidentally.

Im using the media player that came with the Sony CD/DVD-RW. It's made by Nero.
