I have been using linux for awhile now, but I had to move back to windows last month because I needed to use dreamweaver for a course.
I know a lot of people here think it's pointless unless your testing but can some one please give me a quick run throught of how to use VMplayer or somthing to use Linux in XP.

I know PI does it, and I can see the advantages of it now.

Thanks Eddie

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking for but I know the TAFusion
Frontier Mepis Linux has ability to to run many Windows applications.
The addon is called Crossover. Check out the link below and go all
the way to the bottom of page to read about Crossover.
http://www.tafusion.com/products/frontier/OEM.php

After reading about Crossover, check this link below and
see about getting more info.
http://help.tafusion.com/

It would be good if they had a webpage to go to where you
enter a Windows application name & version and it tells you
if it will run under Crossover in Linux. I'm not sure if Crossover
will run in any version of Linux or if you need to run the Tafusion
Frontier Mepis Linux to run Crossover.

Anyway, if you find this Crossover thing interesting and find
out anything about it, I'd sure like to hear about it.
Thanks!

Dudeking its easy. You download and install VMware player. then you use VMXbuilder (http://petruska.stardock.net/Software/VMware.html)to create a virtual machine & a virtual hard drive. Get an ISO of you're favourite distro, when useing VMXbuilder tell it to use that ISO as you're CD drive.

Boot the VM, and you'll get you're familair installer, after thats done just set the CD drive to a more usefull position with VMXbuilder.

P.S. why not use VMware to run Windows inside linux? or dual boot VMware gives a performence hit.

Pete: crossover should work with any linux. Check with you're distros forums before spending though

I'm not realy bothered about the perfomace hit, just want it to play around with realy.
I didnt know about VMXbuilder, I will have a go at in now.

I have been using Cedega to play games in linux.

Thanks Eddie :)

I run linux in Windows to make sure that performance hit is on Linux, not Windows (most of my apps that I use are in Windows), and because I only use one Windows OS (excluding Vista beta) and quite a few Linux distros. You can use VMXBuilder or Microsoft Virtual PC to create the files, then use VMWare Player (or MS Virtual PC) to use them. Installation in Virtual PC is easier because the graphics are better before you install the VMWare tools, which can be a bit tricky in certain distros. If I ever have some time I'll probably make a tutorial for Ubuntu and maybe a few other distros.

Wicked thanks PI.
Thats what I wanted to know, I'll give it a go with Fedora later.
Ill try and take a few screen shots to show other people.
