I bought Acronis when the newest version was 6( I believe) and went to version 7 and have been using it ever since. My only problem is whenever I want to use it I must repair it by inserting the cd and click repair. Then it works with no problems. In the beginning I was removing it from startup with MSconfig and thought that was the problem and stopped removing it. It seems I still have the problem but it only takes a minute or two to have it repair itself and then it works fine..The difference between ver.7 and ver.9 is ver.7 is free,,,

Also ver 9 allows backups of individual files/folders. You don't have to do an entire volume.

Unfortunately this offer is withdrawn. I saw it too late. :-(
Thanks for pointing it out! Just wish I saw it sooner.

A guy said to get the key from Acronis and then sign in and Truimage is in your account under the file name:
Key - http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7 (http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7)
File - ftp://Acronis:TrueImage7@ftp.vnudownloads.org/TrueImage70_u_en.exe
Here's what I did and it was after 11:30 EST . I read where someone said they were stopping the free version so I went back and a guy said try these url's. The first one is to register for the SN or key. After you register they send you an E-mail to find out that your E-Mail address is good. When you get that they have another url to click that takes you back and tells them it is a valid Address. They then send you the SN or key by E-mail. Here is where I got confused. You have to go back to Acronis and almost re-register by giving them your name and E-Mail address and pick a password. You then are admitted into the site. Since I already have version 6 and 7 they have them listed in my account and the day I registered Ver 7 was back in 2005. This had me stumped until I saw below that it also had another file for version 7 and the upgrade with todays date as registration. I clicked on the version 7 with todays date and it asked to open or save and I saved it to my hard drive. I now have another copy of Acronis. So try these url's as it seemed the last site got overwhemed....

Hi
I got the key but could not get the actual download.
File - ftp://Acronis:TrueImage7@ftp.vnudownloads.org/TrueImage70_u_en.exe
This page could not be displayed. :-(
I tried just installing the upgrade but this didn't accept the key. :(
I'll keep the key just in case that version becomes available again somewhere.
Thanks!!

Vivienne,
If you have the key just go to Acronis.com and join or if your already a member put in your address and password.Click on "my account" and registered products to see if it's in your account. If there save it to your hard drive, I then copy it to a disk. I downloaded it last night and installed it on a new build I just finished,'I then used it to backup XP...

This really concerns me here as this is a really old version and you may rely on it and it is too old to read a drive you may be depending on. Right after making an image file, you need to try to restore it to make sure this will work, or you are just wasting time and living with false security.

Are you saying that Acronis is putting out a bad product. I've been using v7 since 2005 and even though I haven't had to use the backup I run a check to see if it's good. I ran the version I D/Led last night and then checked it and it told me that it was fine. Now this is with a Sata drive onto an IDE drive. Maybe I've been fooling myself and Acronis isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks for the warning - much appreciated! I had heard on another Forum that this version was the most stable of all. Is this false information? I will do a restore right after a save and I will use the bootable disk which I believe you recommend. I will copy the rescue disk to a CD rather than a floppy.
Thanks!

Thanks, Casey, this is good to know but I will check as Rich recommends anyway.
I think we were posting at the same time as I didn't see yours until I had sent mine.

Lets us not panic folks. I am suggesting that you are using a version that is 4 years old to save $30, something I would never, ever recommend. Acronis 7.0 had no verfication in it, and I don't believe 8 did either, though there is a downloadable verification tool you can use with it to be safe. But 7 was missing a lot of drivers as was 8, only natural as the hardware was not yet produced, so I am suggesting be careful is all.
Personally, I would always buy and feel better with the newest product, available at Newegg for $35. It has file backup as well as image file creation available and there are other features including better work creating in Windows (runs much faster whereas 7.0 and 8.0 had a big system drag almost preventing you from doing other things while making an image file, completely missing from 9.0). As I remember there were problmes with drivers on 7.0 rescue disk with driver recognition, common with Ghost and Drive Image in those years.
No I am not saying it is a bad product, just an outdated one.

This version has a "Check Image" in it as I would believe that is verification. Anyway I made a Acronis bootable CD and booted up as I had the image on a secondary IDE drive on the same computer. Everything went fine, except since my IDE drive is drive 1 and the sata drive is drive 2 that is the way they showed up in Acronis. It was just a matter of picking the tib file from the IDE drive and it restored the image with no problems..
