There are three kinds of people...
Those who do
Those who watch
Those who run
Heros are people who do.
Whether by instinct or gut reaction, they just do.
The watchers will sit back and wait for someone else to do something.
The runners will vacate the area.
If you happen to be the action type, you just do things without thinking about it. The situation requires action and you just do it. Worry about consequences later.
I am an "action" type. 35 years EMS, 30 yrs. fire, 25 yrs. police, I can't stand inaction or lack of decision in an emergency. I'm always first in and last out.
I don't know if that makes a hero, but when lives are at stake, there's no time to sit and think about it. You just do what you are trained to do and pray for the best. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.
And then there are those times when you say "How the he** did I get myself in the middle of this friggen mess?"
