Normally there are two Ads by Google in the upper right hand corner, above the 'Welcome, Black Mirror'. They seem to be missing which might indicate some kind of ad blocking.

That is what most people see (at least those not running an ad blocker). There is some unused (gray) area between the two Ads by Google and the KH logo. We are currently considering modifications which will use that area.

A possible explenation is that you've installed a hosts file that blocks the adds, thats my suspision as I've got no adds in both IE and firefox.

google search then click a sponsered link, prefrably one at the top not the side, on my computer those adds show but if I click them I can't find the page.

Or you could just read you're hosts file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc then drag it into notepad use ctrl-f to look for google
