Only post #1 and post #3 at this (http://kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3504) thread have no "Edit" button. Other than these two posts, I am able to edit all of my other posts. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?
Thanks,
Ray

That's a weird one - a random problem that we do not know how to replicate. And one that has apparently occurred after the fact since you were able to edit Post #1 a month after its initial creation.
The only members that should see an Edit button on Post #1 and Post #3 are you (as the author) and moderators. I am able see an Edit button on these posts. I'll try to follow up on this problem but I am not sure if I will be able to come up with an explanation.
Other reports would be helpful.

Still no luck, unfortunately.

I have also discovered that I am unable to edit various posts in this (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3006) thread. I'm not sure what's going on
EDIT: I also cannot edit any of my posts here (http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2761). I can edit most of my posts elsewhere; just not posts with attachments/large size perhaps?

I've gone through many of my posts as Mommalina and
all as Mommalina1, and the EDIT buttons are missing!
I wanted to make sure that anyone trying my chicken recipes
would use whole chicken and chicken parts with skin and
not skinless chicken breast or skinless parts (would dry
up in hot oven).

They're back!!!!!!
EDIT buttons seem to be back on my posts for both registrations
(Mommalina and Mommalina1). .. :cheer2:
I did not check them all, but those that had no EDIT button
yesterday have one today.

Sherlock Terry,
Either the EDIT buttons are playing hide and seek, or I did not
check enough of my posts....some EDIT buttons are missing
and some are not. I noticed that oddity in the same thread.
For example, check this thread and my numbered posts below:
Cooking instruction and recipes
http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4810
Post No.
15 - no edit button
20 - no edit button
22 - no edit button
24 - edit button (Note this post had a previous edit)
28 - no edit button
29 - edit button (Note this post did not have a previous post.
Terry, I hope this gives you some clues to the problem.:)

I posted this http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=18976#post18976 ,
edited it shortly thereafter, and with a half-hour the
EDIT button disappeared.
I just clicked on the url in this post to make sure it worked,
and it reappeared! I was correct.....the EDIT button is playing
hide-and-seek!

Is this the sequence of your experiences
1. Create message Google Spreadsheets at 10:26
2. Edited your post a couple of minutes later
3. Came back around 11:00 and saw no Edit button
4. While creating a message here with a thread reference to Google Spreadsheets, clicked on the reference and found the Edit button for your 11:01 update
If this is the case, the theory I was developing about responses to a post 'killing' the Edit button is out the window.
Ray and Lina: When you see a post without an Edit button, what happens if you click where the Edit button should be?

Nothing happens, Terry. I even tried the QUOTE button and the two
icons to the right of the QUOTE button. The EDIT button doesn't
show up .. :brick:

Terry, another clue may be that where I post:
- my EDIT buttons are there throughout the same thread.
- my EDIT buttons are missing throughout the same thread.
(That is, after the EDIT button makes up its mind whether it
wants to stay, leave, or come back.) .. :)
Will check it out when I get a chance.

Am still experiencing the same problems, and am discovering more and more posts without an edit button. Please let me know if you come to some sort of conclusion. Thanks.

Terry, I notice there are no EDIT buttons for any of my posts
in this thread. Will see what happens when I finalize this
one. (I think it will temporarily be there, then disappear).
Lina
lst EDIT.....Yep, the EDIT button showed up. Will try to
remember to let you know later if it's still there.
2d EDIT.....Still here. I did some checking; and apparently,
if my EDIT buttons disappear, it's throughout an entire thread. For example:
http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/showthread.php?p=19031#post19031
Terry, both my and Ray's posts have no EDIT buttons in this current thread. Do
you have one?
3d EDIT.....button still here for this post and still missing for
my previous posts in this thread.

Thank you for mentioning this problem again. I have not forgotten it but finding a solution is proving difficult. This is obviously a vBulletin problem (I know you both will sleep easier when you realize that we are not blaming you :) ). I have been able to observe the problem with a test user (our moderator status appears to override the problem). One theory that I am working on is that this problem is a bug in our release (3.6.0). Hopefully I will get some research time next week.

Any discoveries yet? I've been finding more and more posts I'm unable to edit, mainly ones from a while ago.

I just performed a little test...I clicked the Edit button for the post I just created, clicked Go Advanced, copied the URL, and then changed the post ID to another post I could not edit. I received the following message:
"The administrator has specified that you can only edit messages for 43200 minutes after you have posted. This limit has expired, so you must contact the administrator to make alterations on your message."
Can this rule be changed, or must I contact an admin to edit an older post?
Thanks,
Ray

Excellent detective work! After the last information that you and Lina provided, I suspected that there was a time limit to edit your own posts. You were much more diligent in following up than I was.

I am not certain if it can (or should be) changed. The major reason for my delay in responding to your original observations is that I cannot find that option in any of our normal control panels. This means that this option was a one time setup parameter when our vBulletin installed or it will require a hack (vBulletin custom modification) to change. As a matter of policy, we do not install hacks in order to facilitate future releases of the software. I will try to find out where it was set.
The 30 day limit on post editing seems like a reasonable time for a member to update their message. During that time other members have responded to the original post. Any dramatic change in the original message will distort the legitimate responses (as we saw with HelenVBeden as an extreme example!). My suspicion is that the necessity of changes after 30 days is extremely rare.
One approach that could be taken to update the original message with new information would be to highlight / copy the text in the original post and paste it into a new post in the same thread or reply using the Quote option. The changes can be added to the new post as well as a note explaining the differences.
Alternatively, I am sure that any of our moderators would accommodate your request to update a post with an expired edit option.

Terry, that's exactly why I sometimes put an asterisk next to what I am
editing in a post and then type the new material at the bottom of the page in
blue.
I also think that in some cases, it may be a good idea to add a new post
again listing edited material - that way, those who responded to the original
unedited post will be automatically notified by email. This can be important
if they are relying on unedited information.

Terry, I remember asking Rob (kern) to edit one of my posts, and it was
not 30 days after the original post. It was either the same day or the day
after.
But all seems okay now. .. :)
