What a slooooow night! Maybe everyone was catching up with the election results? We tied for 4th place most of the evening and closed at about 11 pm.

NOTE - We did not discuss Acronis because Photolady figured it out and did not need any
help! (Wish I was that savvy.)

WHO WAS THERE

KH MEMBERS - Lina, Tony, Doug, Rich, Elliot, rbob (kern),
Rob Cohan (he brought along his lovely daughter Lisa) Photolady, N3 (Loop), Dan (he left during a very early lull in computer questions when we were discussing yucky non-tech subjects .. :spit: ..- see below). Rich said Lawrence
did make it to the Fiji Islands, so he was not in attendance. Hope he has a ball!

PARTICIPATING VISITORS -

thewiz_5 - How to get Office 2003 download on a CD. Unzip and copy every file.

LOLAbell - We patiently tried to help her resolve her computer "problem" for a good 15 minutes until she typed, "you guys are useless my 5 year old knows more about computers than you all do."
She should have asked her 5-year old. Obviously, she was putting us on.

teachme111 - He checked in long enough just to post his probably malware-laden web site. No thanks!

COMPUTER-RELATED DISCUSSIONS

VISTA

- February 1 is official release date. If you're a registered member of
MSDN, you can get your Vista on November 13th.

- Too new and has too many security risks says Steve Gibson
(per Rob Cohan).

- Maybe we should treat Vista like they treated astronauts and the
space ship after first trip to outer space (or was it to the moon?).
They quarantined everyone and everything to assess for contagious
disease and dangerous materials (per Rob Cohan).

AOL'S ANTIVIRUS AND ANTISPYWARE - Photolady's customer
seemed proud that he had it on his malware-infested computer! She told him it was a POS (excuse the vernacular).

MAC

- People are moving over to MAC since it can run some
Windows programs. But can't run Windows programs
natively. You can only run Windows programs on a MAC
if you install the Windows operating system.

- Photolady quit MAC seven years ago because of
some incompatible Windows software.

- MAC (and Linux) not used by businesses; it's a waste of
hackers' time and effort.

LINUX - Rich finds Puppy too spartan, wants to try others
using external hard drive.

SCSI (SMALL COMPUTER SYSTEM INTERFACE)

- Price of SATA has almost driven SCSI out of the market. SATA 2 and newer chipsets equal throughput of SCSI.

- SCSI rocks but $$$$

MEMBER N3 (LOOP) - Finally reformatted! .. :cheer2: .. but not completely satisfied. Can't get Samsung B/W
Laser Printer to work. Our crew gave him some advice. Hope it
works out.

HOW TO UNINSTALL IE-7 - go to
Add/Remove Programs, last entry.

LINA'S YAHOO MAIL PROBLEM - Resolved

NON-COMPUTER DISCUSSIONS

LINA'S REFRIGERATOR PROBLEM

- Rob (kern), it was the defrost thermostat that was bad.

- If anyone needs a Maytag refrigerator temperature thermostat, defrost heater, or defrost timer, PM me. There was nothing wrong with the originally installed ones.

TURKEYS - We talked about catching one from
the flock of turkeys that congregate near Doug's home; killing, cleaning, and cooking turkeys and chickens. Lina reminisced about the chicken/turkey intestines she and her mother would clean, cook and put into the stuffing... it's no wonder Dan left! .. :spit:

Join us next week, bring your computer questions and sense of humor.

Take care :grouphug:
