well...so much for the OTT and patch up job we did...that lasted longer then i thought it would...:)
when i did the OTT it was done through a file that was downloaded into my documents and then tranferred into windows i believe...i did not use the disc...

today windows ME tried to reinstall itself...don't ask me how because i do not know...i was in my documents and was clicking on a picture to open it and all of a sudden...baaammm...windows setup started...i couldnt stop it so i shut the computer down manually...i know that i still have the setup file in my documents and on my c-drive...was not sure if i should have gotton rid of them...

today when i was opening internet explorer 6sp1 i got two seperate microsoft errors...of course microsoft could not identify them because they no longer care about the older ME version of their product...

when i closed internet explorer i got the kernell32.dll error...it came and went...this is how all of my problems started the first time...

are my problems going to start to get worse??? could this be the beginning of the end??? do i let it run it's course or do i try for a clean install of windows 98SE?? what do you all think besides time to get a new machine...i am about 4 months away from that happening and need to keep this one going untill then...

any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated...thanks...
here we go again...lol

What do you think about backing up your documents and reinstalling Windows? I'm also concerned about the age of the hard drive. Is it the original drive?

i have no idea how old the hard drive is...i bought this at a custom computer shop where they put the computers together for you...i would think that it is the original...:frown:

would that show up on a belarc log...just a stupid question... i do know thai it is a 7.85 HD i'm pretty sure...

i have a brand new burner that i installed 2 weeks ago...i know that much...:)

i would like to do a clean install of windows 98SE...i have the disk that seth gave me but was having problems using it when i was doing the OTT...for some reason we tried to use it in the install of ME... i think because the ME disc was reading as "invalid disc"...but i kept getting an "invalid disc erroR" with the 98SE disc as well...that is why we did the OTT from a downloaded file which i still have on my computer......

i just need this computer to last me 4 or 5 more months and i will be "home free"...i will have the money to purchase a new one by then hopefully...:)

what's your opinion now???

click add/remove programs, click startup disk tab, click create disk

heres the link link for "creating startup disk" from Microsoft ---> http://www.microsoft.com/windowsME/using/computerhealth/articles/startupdisk.asp

what is the windows ME back up disc used for???

i have the back up disc and the KEY that goes to it...has this been rendered useless now that i have done the OTT???

when i bought the computer a few months ago i had problems so i asked them to give me a back up disc and a key for the windows ME...

so they gave me a back up disc and a key for the CD for ME...:)

will that do anything???

i dont know. all i can suggest is you try it. but first backup or copy your important data onto cd as we talked about last night on Paltalk.

thank you rob...:)
