from Microsoft this week?

I just got one yesterday saying I was getting a Free copy of Vista Ultimate.
We're proud to announce that we have finalized our work on this version of Windows. Today, we have announced an extremely important milestone for Microsoft, the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) of Windows Vista. After receiving thousands of pieces of feedback via phone support and Web chat, we've incorporated much of this feedback into improving Windows Vista. Through your dedication and persistence, we're releasing an exceptionally better product. We could not have done this without your help!

Though we are officially announcing the release of Windows Vista today, the new version of Windows will not be available for consumers until late January. Computer manufactures require several months in order to test and prepare a new version of Windows for inclusion on new PC's. This is a normal part of the process for Microsoft and these manufacturers.

We're pleased to announce that we will be sending you one licensed 32-bit retail copy of Windows Vista Ultimate as a thank you for your participation in our program. This complimentary copy of Windows Vista may be installed on a 32-bit or 64-bit capable computer (x86/x64). At this time, we plan to send these out to participants in the February timeframe. We must wait until the product is available for purchase at retail establishments before shipping your copy so please continue to use and enjoy your existing version of Windows Vista until that time.

I'm sorry I should have explained.......
This message did come from Microsoft. I am not a hobbyist though, I am a PC Tech by trade. And not everyone who downloaded the Vista versions will see this email. I also wasn't asking if this was real or not. I already know it is. ;)

Check the blogs, it was announced by MS that registered beta tester participants (who submitted bugs and feedback) in the test beta phase would receive a free copy.
There were also recent blurbs that MS has filled all of those orders and the give away has completed.

Hee Hee Hee - I am getting Ultimate, Business, Home Premium, and Home Basic in my next Plus Pack. And I can put "them" on 10 different computers (too bad I won't be putting "them" on any of my computers!).

I am thinking of getting 4 SATA drives and doing the installation of a copy of each Vista version on the 4 drives. That way I will at least have a system I can boot and work with the clients who find themselves completely lost.

Yee Haw! ! ! UPS just delivered my Novell Professional pack! SUSE Linus, Desktop Linux, and a bunch more goodies just waiting for my server build! ! !

Man this is as good as it gets!

Dan the Vista version I'm getting has all those extra ones too.

Doug, I have Vista Beta and Vista RC1 both on dvds, that Microsoft sent me via a MVP's request, another friend. ;)

I also have another friend who had downloaded Vista both Beta and RC1 but never submitted a bug report, and he's not getting a free copy or so he says. He's an MVP so I can't see that not happening. Maybe he was just joking when he said that. ;) As I know most MVP's will get Vista even if us low on the totem pole don't. :D

Seems like a valid and fair policy to only reward the ones who
provided some kind of feedback. That feedback is extremely
valuable to MS and the people are justly rewarded for their
efforts. It's not really FREE because you worked for it.
I applaud MS for this policy and for those who participated!
:clap2:
