I have the following HDD's in my machine:
1. Seagate ST3120827AS
2. Seagate ST3250823AS

Are these slow, med, or fast drives? Is there a faster drive?
They are OK in performance but I still miss that SCSI thing I had a couple of years ago. SCSI is out of my price range now. I keep seeing references to
Barracuda, and another drive. I will stay with Seagate no matter what.

Which Seagate drive would you suggest. (I may consider doing a second Core2 Duo box.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

If it's speed you want - then go with the WD Raptor 10k rpm SATA. Most of the field I have seen are 7200 rpm. With SATA you don't see too much difference but there is a difference.

As for the drives you have:

ST3120827AS
Barracuda 7200.7
Capacity 120.9gb
Speed 7200
Average Read Time 8.5 ms
Cyc 16383
Heads 16
sectors 63

ST3250823AS
Barracuda 7200.8
Capacity 250 gb
Speed 7200
Average Read Time 8 ms
Cyc 16383
Heads 16
Sectors 63

You are probably seeing a difference since the machine will sync to the slowest most common denominator - the 827 with the 8.5 ms read time. So while the other drive has only 8 ms, it syncs with the smaller drive and averages out at the 8.5 ms read time.

Would a 7200.10 be any improvement?
