Currently, I am using Opera's e-mail client, which is great but lacking a bit in power. I would like to switch over to something not built into the web browser.
Which e-mail client do you feel is the "best," so to speak? I have heard great things about Thunderbird as well as Pegasus Mail (only 8MB and packed with features).
I would appreciate any opinion shared. :yo:

I use Outlook Express on my Windows machine. I think it's fine.

OE, when properly configured and custom filters written, is still one of the best!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will think about OE, but in the meantime, I'm going to continue to research. ... What do you think of Evolution (http://shellter.sourceforge.net/evolution/) for Windows? This screenshot (http://shellter.sourceforge.net/evolution/evoshot1.png) looks similar to Outlook. Some of its features are described here (http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/features.shtml). And finally, here (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1749941,00.asp) is an interesting article, titled Thunderbird: Not Quite Ready for Business, discussing Thunderbird/(Evolution)/(Pegasus). A slightly different (earlier) version of the article can be found here (http://email.webbuyersguide.com/buyingadvice/2691-wbgemail_buyingadvice.html). ... Thoughts?

I like the full version of MS Outlook. I use the version included with MS Office 2003 Academic. It is a powerful, but very user friendly program.

I use Kmail myself, dosn't work on windows though but it has some great features:
The ability to interface with just about any anti-spam thanks to Unix pipes.
The ability to read a local mailbox / maildir, so some other program fetches the mail and kmail just reads it and sends replies. (also helps for having multiple mail clients share the same mail, even over a network!)
PGP & SMIME support as standard.

Thanks for your response, Tortanick. I am, however, looking for an e-mail client for Windows. This is why I was looking into Evolution, which has been ported to Windows.
"Evolution is an incredibly versatile email/calendar/PIM that took the Linux world by storm a few years ago. It has been called an 'Outlook replacement' by every tech site from ZDNet to InfoWorld."
One of its features is its "support for signing and encrypting mail via GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) and S/MIME." I have the gpg4win (GnuPG/WinPT) package installed, so this caught my attention.
You seem to be familiar with Linux software; do you have any experience with Evolution's e-mail client?

I have been on the same search for another reason. I love OE, would not dream of using Outlook "bloatware", Pegasus just died, Incredimail is incredibly cumbersome and annoying, and the new Windows Mail in Vista, is just like Outlook, opinion of which I already stated. I have played with Thunderbird and that is most likely where I will head in 2009 when I convert to Vista (after SP3) I figure.

Despite the fact that it was written last year, what's your opinion on this (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1868725,00.asp) article?

Ray,
I haven't tested Thunderbird recently and actually I am happy to note spell check now. My other issue was problems sending group emails if I remember right.
I recently tried it in my attempt to p[lace a mail store on networked drive and like all the others it failed so I bailed right out and didn't really "look around".

After all this, I've decided to go with Thunderbird. I like its simple layout, but more importantly, I really like the fact that I can use the Enigmail (http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download.html) extension for OpenPGP key management, etc. Thanks for all the help!
