Well I tried it again this time relegating a 2nd pc to only Vista using rc version and went through 6 wireless adapters before I found one I could install hardware for. Newest one I had and I could not autorun the install. Instead I had to go into the driver folder and run setup from there and force the driver in.
Had the same issue with about 5 soundcards. 3 Soundblasters (Live various) would not go in even with the Vista downloaded driver from Creative, a Hercules card, and Audigy card...none would install driver but for some reason onboard went in so that's where it stays.
I could not install any graphics viewer except "Picture It" which I hate. Partition magic, Disk Director of Partition Commander forgetaboutit. Ghost, Acronis 10 TI no but NTi Backup went in and worked though it took forever.
My biggest issue was I was running 512 ram, not by intention but because I was short shipped 512 by the seller and I swear applications went in slower than on a 450 Celery cpu of a few years back. For the life of me I never remember anything loading programs sooo slow...and this cpu is an older D805 Intel Dual Core yet.
I sincerley hope this mess is fixed before this is released at the end of the month or get ready for an incredible amount of nearly unresolvable problems from all but our most savvy clients.

I agree great line. bedazzled was a great film wans't it.

Anyway mylanta, I'm glad to hear my arch nemisis in the OS world still sucks big time. Thanks for keeping us informed.

One thing I've picked up as a Linux user is that its quite possible that many hardware people outsource driver development and thus no longer have the resorces, or documentation to upgrade their drivers to Vista compatable. If this is the case, and you're exploits have shown a lack of backwards compatiblity we could be seeing major hardware problems for Vista continueing long after the launch. I must make a field trip to scavange the usefull computers people will be dumping, perhaps I'll convert the guest room into a cluser :) ahh well back to reality, I'm not scavenging (the cluster can be done)

Rich,

Are you still using the BETA version? ? ? ? OEM release was done last month.

I have been putting in some long hours the last few days since one of Lou's client had their Windows server crash and burn. Some how the System State got completely hosed and I have been fighting with a Windows System Hard Error (don't bother to do the MSKB on that one - no documents found is MS reponse {huh} ).

Anyway doing a recreation now and should be in place by 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Can't the discussion about Vista focus on its performance without the usual Linux cheerleading?!
We already know how 'great' Linux is from the posts on the board. BTW, what about issues with Linux recognizing hardward drivers? After all of its years in development you would think they'd get this right by now. :-]

John, remember the cheers when XP came aboard? And then the
frustration with SP-1 and SP-2? Then the cheering began anew.
Hopefully the same thing will happen with Vista after some of the
problems are resolved.

I'm giving it time. I just hope when it's time to buy a new computer, Vista
will be ready for me. .. :)

The Redmond Conspiracy
Starring Matt Damon, Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates
In theaters summer 2007.

I can't help but believe that we are approaching Harvest Time, again.
Microsoft provides the OS that does't work with the old H/W, S/W and the manufacturers are more than happy to provide all the new hardware and software needed for the new OS.

Need a little persuasion ? No problem. Figure on the Redmond gang to DC XP support in a couple years (or so scuttlebut says).

Vista had better be good.
Linux is catching up.
Both SUSE 10.0 and Kubuntu 6.06 recognized my hodgepodge wireless network. All point and click.
Actiontec, DLink and Linksys.
Vista did not. I had to scrounge up a Ralink utility to help Vista connect.

They say that Windows has 80% of the world market OS market right now.
That is impressive, but I think that in a few short years it will be around 60/40 with MS still in the lead and Linux keeping the pressure on.

Oh, and that fancy Vista GUI, it looks "linuxy" to me ;)

I didn't say anything pro-linux, just that following Linux hardware support gave me some info that may explain why its so hard for Vista to work with old hardware

If mylanta is right its hardware support is better than Vista. Now lets get back to the thread topic of why Vista sucks.

Whenever dell & co says ;)

The saying that "this is the year of the Linux Desktop" is a running joke amoung the community, everything is done now except marketing and pre-installed Linuxes with everything you want as standard.
