I just successfully installed the latest express hi-priority Windows Updates.
I do not allow Automatic Updates, never have.

A review of Update History shows the following as "failed" updates:

- Q815021 XP Security Update, June 28, 2003

- 816093 Security Update, Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM),
June 28, 2003

The last time I checked the Update History, no failed updates were listed. Why
would they show up as failed now?

Google did not clarify things for me. I'd appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Lina,

See if any of the failed updates are listed in your Add/Remove list.

No, they are not. Thanks.

I can't guess why these two items might appear / disappear. :noidea: When I went back to review my Windows Updates history log , I had about half a dozen failures over the years. You can click in the red failure icon and it will show the sage advice to try again or check out the FAQ. Duh  In my log, I checked and saw that all of the failures were subsequently installed successfully. I suspect that you have probably done the same thing with these two items otherwise they would continue to appear in the with the current critical updates. The other possibility is that these items were incorporated into a subsequent cumulative update. Either way, there is no current problem.

I know that you hate to leave anything without a complete explanation. however, there doesn't appear to be anything to worry about and it would be very difficult (if not impossible) to determine where these failure notices have been hiding.
:peep:

Thanks, Terry. Now I can sleep tonight ..

Some things we will never understand....men (if you're a woman), women
(if you're a man), and those who program computers.......perhaps the
electronic voting machines without paper trails were not programmed
that way deliberately after all.. ;)
