Redmond (WA) - Microsoft announced today that it will allow consumers to purchase, upgrade, or add additional licenses of Windows Vista online, marking the first time the software giant has turned to digital distribution for one of its operating systems. ...

*And six months from now, as unwanted Vista software piles up on the store shelves...
"Please download Vista. We'll give it to you for free to use for six months. Please, please, pretty please!"

Excerpt from article....
Microsoft has set suggested prices for Vista at $199 for Home Basic, $239 for Home Premium, $299 for Business and $399 for Ultimate.

These prices crack me up. No wonder hackers work so hard to
defeat the anti-piracy schemes.

Knowing that housholds these days have 2 or 3 computers running
WinXP, can you imagine the conversation?

Hubby; "Honey, do you have $717, I need to upgrade the
three computers to Vista?"

Wifey; "Oh really? What does Vista do that WinXP won't do?

Hubby; "It has a really cool looking desktop. Something called Aero"

Wifey; "Sorry, we have other more important things to do with $717."

Hubby; "Waaaaaaaaaaaa" [crying]

Opps, I just re-read that article and found this....

Also, consumers will be able to go to the Windows Marketplace to license additional copies of Vista, intended for people who have a home business or a large family with several computers. Instead of purchasing multiple copies of the software, they can just add a license to the existing software for $50 each.

Now that's more reasonable! :-)
I think that reasonable pricing is the real solution to software piracy.
