Every time my mother shutdowns IE 7, she receives that ubiquitous
dialogu box that the program has encountered a problem, sorry for the
inconvenience, and do you want to report the problem to Microsoft.
Even though she has reported the problem, like all such reports there
is never an answer.

Any ideas why shutdown is creating a problem or is there a way of
eliminating the dialog box from appearing all together?

Please no evaluative comments on IE 7; she did not know it was being installed.

try uninstalling and then reinstalling.

If that doesn't work, restart in Safe Mode with Networking and see how it reacts. If that fixes the problem, then there's something in the Startup tab that's conflicting with IE.

Joe,

Did she have ANY toolbars linked to IE 6 before she was snookered by the IE 7 install?

I have found that unless there is a completely clean IE 6, IE 7 will trash the toolbar links and associations.

What I would suggest is that she just back out to IE 6 - it should be a clean removal.
