I have a folder in My Documents/My Pictures with about 100 photos. I thought I could send the folder as an email attachment but I can't seem to do it this way. I was sure I did this in the past but now I have to open the folder and send each picture as a separate attachment. Is there a way to send the folder as an attachment? Thanks.

How big is the folder June ???. have you tried compressing and emailing

Right click on folder and choose compress and email
it could be that the folder is too big and you will have to break it own into smaller folders

June, basicaly you need to zip up that folder to a single file
and send the zip file as an attachment. Here's how:

1.) Go to.. START -> My Documents
Then right-click on folder .. My Pictures
and select.. Compress to "My Pictures.zip"

Note: This will combine all the pics to a file
named My Pictures.zip under My Documents.

2.) Run your Email program and attach the file.. My Pictures.zip
to a message as you normally do and send it.

Good point, BM.
She could create multiple subfolders and use the same process with
less files in each *.zip .

Most people have Webspace that comes with their ISP account but never
use it. I say, use that webspace to upload the large file using a simple FTP
program and then send an Email with a link to the file. I do that all the time
to overcome limitations of people's Email on very large attachments.

BM. it looked good at first but then I realized that the Pro version or
the Publisher version would be needed to send large files. The prices
are outragous $19.95/month or $49.95/month. That's insane.

Use the FREE WEBSPACE method I mentioned in my other post.
It might take a little time to learn the process but it sure beats
paying those prices if you need to do it more than one time.

I assume you can use the trial version to do it for 30 days.

Thanks for the replies. The folder contains 189 mb. Is that too big to compress? I am going to explore both options.

Hi June what do you use as your email program ????

189 MB probably too much for any email account. jpg files are already compressed - so you won't be able to whittle them down unless you use a photo editor to shrink the image size or resolution.

Some ISP's limit the size of email you can send. Additionally, they usually limit the amount of space you can use. Some ISP's limit your space to only 10 MB. Even if you can send the file, the recipient's email may choke on it and reject it.

As Pete said, I would look into using whatever free "My Space" hosting your ISP provides. Most offer considerable storage that can be accessed via the web by anyone. Then you can email a link to them to access your space.

Management of your "My Space" folder is a simple process where, once logged in, it is a simple drag and drop as if it were a drive on your machine.

June,

If you are going to sending a bunch of pics to multiple recipients, you should take advantage of online storage: Picasa2 has a Web Album. Then there is Kodak EasyShare, Ofoto, as well as the others that have been mentioned.

However, if you want to email them, Kelly is right. Jpegs are already compressed and will not be compressed any further, but here is a trick to 'compress' the jpegs:

-Select ~25 pics at a time (guesstimating to keep ISP file size limit down below 5 MB or if you are sending to multiple recipients such as AOL you may hit an AOL quota on the receive side)
-Right-click and choose Send To | Mail Recipient
-The NEXT POPUP defaults to 'Make all of my pictures smaller' | OK (This is THE trick!)
-Send the email to YOURSELF
-For tidiness, save all incoming attachments to a separate folder and 'compress' (zip) that folder without any actual compression.
-Then send the resultant zipped files one at a time as an attachment.

This technique will whittle the pics down to about 1/10 file size with
some loss of quality. If the recipient wants an origininal, you can always send that one separately as a zipped file w/o any loss of quality.

Fred - thanks - I forgot about that little trick

At 189mb (about 1/3 of a CD-R disk), you might consider burning
to a CD and mailing it via snail mail for about $1.
