I've got a computer where the screen perodically goes black with just a UPSCR.Scr has encounted a problem and needgs to close error.
Clicking don't send makes the problem go away for a while but it keeps comeing back.
I did a virus scan with bit-defender online, and AVG anti-spyware with no luck. Anyone know what the problem is?

Have you looked at error reports in Admin Tools? That can be spyware but depending on the age of the monitor more than likely is beginning of monitor failure.

What would I be looking for in admin tools?
And I don't think its spyware, both bit-defender and avg anti-spyware came up blank.
As for moniter failure, the moniter works fine, it just turns blank during this error, I'd sooner bet its just being told to display nothing than going wrong

Error log...I think monitor is defective new or old, however, I am not willing to bet the farm on just 2 scans either, that's why I do more to be certain.

I have a look in the event viewer, I can find errors about this:
It just says "Falting application upscr.scr version 0.0.0.0 falting modual upscr.scr version 0.0.0.0 falt address 0x000116d0"
I checked quite a few errors and they all seem to be at 0x000116d0 googleing it wasn't much help
Rich,
Didn't we address this issue with a poster on *** about a year back?
I can't remember what caused the problem, but Tort, try uploading the file here (http://virusscan.jotti.org/) and see what it say's. (The file might be hidden)

did you try the monitor on another machine?

Me either.
Looks like malware to me. I'd just delete it. Or check msconfig, as it's probably in there.
Either way, I don't think it's a legit system or program file.
It's probably in the prefetch too.

Nope its a laptop
Anyway I'll search *** for upscr.scr - found it in one thread, where it was part of a HiJackThis log under "files created between", no mention elsewhere in the thread. although I now know where to find it.
And I'll upload it to the online mailware scan.

Progress, its happening every time the screen saver turns on! Now to find out if its the screen saver used or any screen saver. edit, its that screen saver. Thanks for all the help I'll post back on the virus check
Malware laden screensavers are a norm. Check add/remove for third party screensavers.

Actually this one came up clean according to that website. But it causes crashes so I'll remove it anyway.

Found no such file on my machine.
Found no such file searching MS.
Google returned several references to malware/trojan.
