I've given up trying to fix an XP laptop that gets stuck booting. So I want to rebuild it. First I want to save the user's documents.

I've slaved the hd to another XP machine. There are several accounts listed in Documents and Settings: All Users, Administrator, Default User, Diane, Kate, Local Service, Network Service.

I can get to the My Documents folders in each of the accounts, except for the 'Diane' account - it has no + next to it and if I try to get into it, I get Access is Denied.

Any way around that?

Sure is.

Thanks - I did see that after I posted the question. Pete and you addressed this not too long ago.

What I failed to mention is that I really didn't have the hd slaved to my machine. Rather, I had an Acronis TI mounted. There was no security tab with the mounted image. However, there was on the actual drive and I copied the files over. Interesting.

I'm finding it easier to hook up an external USB drive and boot to
Puppy Linux to do data backups. In less than 5 minutes you are
copying the files.

Take the external HD to another PC and burn some CDs for the
customer and use the CDs or the external HD to restore the data.

Fast..Efficient...Puppy Linux!
