What's so terrible about downloading the update called "WGA"?

Uh... the fact that it has rejected almost 30% of valid XP installs and caused users to have to get down on one knee and beg MS to validate them?

The fact it regularly phones MicrosoftHQ giving them who knows what information?

And keeps popping up reminding you that "this copy is possibly pirated" blah blah.[sometimes even if it isn't]
And you can't uninstall it. :(

besides, according to definitions of spyware, wga IS a spyware. no matter what the intentions, it transmits information from your machine to another site without your knowledge.

I've had no issue with this on several computers thus far. How do you spell paranoia? :-)

All Microsoft updates phone home at the very least to inform them about whether the installation was successful or not.

Well I don't think it can be classed as paranoia when it has been widely reported as troublesome.

You classify it as you want to and I'll classify it to my liking. There does seem to be a lot of paranoia these days. All of the 'Big Brother' stuff and spying on us is vastly over stated in my opinion.

I don't like the idea of any program calling home without my knowledge either, but if ya want M$ products, that the name of their game....

I agree big deal about nothing. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes (except for our President)....MS needs the information to better develop the product and I seriously doubt they need or want what I have.
