Good Evening All, well everyone is interested in new ideas and new releases,
SAM Linux is very interesting.
http://distrowatch.com/

Released on 22-3-07 this new Sam Linux is polished, it is a live 700 meg system easily installable from a running system to a hard drive etc, it has unique abilities and even when run as a live CD is online when it boots.

Anyone interested might D/L and give it a try you won't be disapointed.

It appears to autodetect all the system components and boots to a nice green desktop with a lot of included programs, including Open Office, Gimp, GParted and most other popular programs.

It uses the synaptic package manager and has ability to install an awful lot of other programs, including Wine.

Beryl 3D desktop is included if you have a good enough video card, but even without that there is an interesting toolbar at the top of the desktop!!

I am impressed, this is a distro certainly worth obtaining and having a look at.

I had never heard of it before, but I am certainly glad I downloaded and gave it a try, I am now dumping a system and will load it onto a hard drive to have a further play with it.

I would be interested in anyones comments about this distro.

Cheers, qldit.

Its based on PCLinuxOS, so I'd guess its very newbie freindly, but not as flexible as something like Debian or Slackware. I can't really say that much about it though.

Good Evening tortanick, yes it is very interesting, they have obviously put a lot of work into it, it actually also contains a rootkit detector and a lot of options at the pre-boot screen.

I have tried it on several machines, it appears to need a reasonable system to operate properly, and it also needs a detectable monitor so that it can set it's video ranges properly.

I am impressed with it's boot screen and what is unseen, it certainly has some detection wigets in it, even though it is essentially a ramdrive system it knows everything in the machine!

I will play with it for a few days, I am intrigued with the Wine program it has.
It also has an awful lot of other popular programs.

I think it has a good future if it were more known and the D/L site had a bit more capacity.

Cheers, Lawrence.
