03/28/07 Wed Nite KH Computer Help Desk Chatroom Summary
(better late than never?)

Sorry this is late and abbreviated .. :( Was babysitting a sick grandchild
Thursday through Monday. The only computer available had fonts too
tiny for these aged eyes, a small monitor screen, W98, and AOHELL
dialup! ..

Our chatroom attracted a lot of members and visitors, placing us 3d and
later 4th in computer chatrooms. At 1:03 AM EST (6:03 AM GMT) I finally
shooed out those lingering on and closed the room.

At the risk of beating this horse one more time ... did you mean to say 9 PM EDT (1 AM GMT)? :clock:
Even this Win98 machine is on DST now. :D

Terry, I'm now using this for the Welcome Wagon greetings, and staff is
using almost the same for the new forum Chatroom Announcement
(http://www.kickenhardware.net/forum/announcement.php?f=59)

9 PM EST (2 AM GMT) until 12 AM EST (5 AM GMT).
Note: Daylight Saving Time applies March through November.
You can find a Time Zone Map at www.worldtimezone.com.

Maybe I should have quoted that here. I'd rather do that than list DST now
and have to change it to EST in November. I've goofed a number of times;
and if I can cut and paste the same spiel each time, it may help keep me
sane!

BTW, how do we know the GMT in all those areas use DST?

Input from members, please! .. :gossip:

The fundamental problem is that daylight savings time is not universal. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is 'standard' and does not change. I'm not sure if the Greenwich time zone even has daylight savings, perhaps Black Mirror or someone else in the UK can enlighten us. Eastern Standard Time (EST) is GMT - 5 hours. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) is GMT - 4 hours. The relationship between Eastern time and GMT (and much of the world) changes when we go to DST. Hence it is difficult to use the same time differential (from Eastern) all year round.

And I do not even own a watch :D

Terry

Me either.

If it weren't for responsibility, I wouldn't even know what year we were in. Most of the time, I don't know even know what day of the week we're in. Computers and woman do that to me.

I'm just not into "time".

Good Evening All, of course flared trousers are still common!!!
Goodness gracious me, what else could a person wear when one goes out!!
I still have some "pegged" pants here, of course a lot of people wouldn't even know what they were!! LOL!!

Yes I have to agree GMT would be a good idea, especially for you people back there in yesterday. LOL!!

It is so nice not having that damned daylight saving time, I couldn't remember how to set my watch, let alone reset it, if the time shows right I never worry about the days readout!! It currently changes day and date at mid-day!!
Trivial stuff, just another thing to cause stress problems!!!

Good to see you back on-deck Momma, good concise report!!! Well done!!

It will be interesting to see if Babygirl returns tomorrow and has the confidence to speak!! (with her new found mic!)
She was super timid and shy last week!
If she does, everyone has to give a cheer!!! (Just to create a memorable moment for her!! LOL!!!)

I was very impressed at MYHD with his assistance for the fellow with the camera that couldn't get it to operate in Paltalk, I wouldn't have had a clue what to do!!!
He certainly fixed that problem.

Rich will get a chance to extoll the virtues of Vista, (payola freak!!)

Those doctors that were interested in giving a short course in web design didn't return, maybe this time they might, they sounded interesting.

It is all happening, I am looking forward to to-morrow afternoon!! LOL!!

It is a shame no ladies will be present from the UK with any funny stories!!!!

The surfers here have had a few odd decent waves to ride, slightly better than normal, but they caused a problem in Samoa.

A good subject for tomorrow might be "how to set up a router with a dovetail bit",

Cheers, Lawrence.

Lina

Lina,
We don't.
It's up to members/guests to figure their local time from GMT.

How's this for a solution?

Mar thru Nov: 9 PM EDT (1 AM / -4 GMT) until 12 AM EDT (4 AM / -4 GMT).
Dec thru Feb: 9 PM EST (2 AM / -5 GMT) until 12 AM EST (5 AM / -5 GMT).

Would like input from overseas members, Rob. May be a good solution,
but stating the months but not the exact dates for EST and DST may be a
problem this November and next March?

I just want something I can cut and paste every time we mention chatroom
time which will be helpful for all our members. It all can be so confusing
for me; I've goofed more than once. :(

I'm comfortable with the following if we insert the actual dates in March
and November for DST.

9 PM EST (2 AM GMT) until 12 AM EST (5 AM GMT).
Note: Daylight Saving Time applies March 11 through November 4.
You can find a Time Zone Map at www.worldtimezone.com.

Let's see if overseas members have a better way. Hopefully, whatever
we settle on will be something I can cut and paste .. :)
