Soundless... not to make things complicated but...
There are many things you can do to optimize and speedup your machine ... almost all of which have been covered here in previous posts.
Start with basics:
Clean out useless items in startup eating your memory
Run all the previously suggested AV and malware scans
Chkdsk and defrag your drives
Update your drivers
Optimize your vid card.
Overclocking is NOT for beginners unless your motherboard has built-in AUTO OVERCLOCKING features
and, even then, still not a subject to be dabbled in without some basic knowledge, adequate system tools, image files and backup system, etc.
I suggest you read through some of the many posts here on the above topics to get you started.
Soudless,
Overclocking is a crapshoot- sucess depends on which cpu and motherboard you have, whether you have adequate cooling for cpu and case, just to name a few. Unless you are into serious gaming, I wouldnt bother- you will risk hosing your system.
IMHO your better off tweaking your system for otimum performance as Doug suggests- we've covered this topic in depth in our Tweaks and Tips Forum among others.
I was under the impression that if your drivers are working properly there is no need to update them? In former threads it was recommended "not" to update drivers that microsoft recommended thru their update service.

In this instance of trying to improve game performance, the video driver is going to be the most critical. If a newer one exists, it may well be more efficient - the manufacturer may optimize them over time. Notice that updating drivers is next to last on Doug's list.
The recommendation of not using M$ provided drivers is a good one. You should normally check the component (video card, printer, etc.) manufacturer for the proper driver for your equipment.

The suggestions have been made NOT to use Microsoft's versions - IF there is a mention of an updated hardware driver, I always suggest going to the manufacturer's site and getting their driver.
Microsoft has a history of getting the "stripped" down version which chokes the system instead of helping it.

To avoid problems, be absolutely sure that your old drivers have been completely removed first.
Also, these latest drivers may not be the best drivers for your card.
Try them and see what you think.
Let us know how it goes.
