Hello guys,

Thought I would ask what you guys think about the parts I am going to buy soon, and any suggesting you may want to give.

The Parts are as follows:

XFX MB-N680-ISH 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe 2.66Ghz
2 Sets of G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) for a total of 4 GB.
2 XFX PVT84GUDF3 GeForce 8600GTS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card for SLI and DirectX 10
CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.

This will be using my Antec Nine Hundred Case and my SATA drives and DVD-RW drive.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks
Hetzer

First of all the board is expensive for an unknown maker. I wouldn't touch it. I would go here for the chipset if you want it:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188019
or here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188014
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130081

For Ram you need to use Crucial, Kingston or Corsair so you can go to their site and use the configurators to match their boards. I would not touch
G Skill. When you get to these chipsets and cpu's, there is only a small number of memory sticks that will run compatibly and you do not want to fool around with this factor.
I would again buy a brand name 8600 card such as Evga, Bfg or Msi, it means something here.

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX

Hello there,

I got my parts just now so I will be doing the build when I get home. I do have one question. should I load Windows Vista 32bit or Vista 64bit?

Thanks for any help you can give..

I would run neighter, but if you had to choose in Vista between the two then I'd go 32bit.

32 bit . There isn't enough available to do anything but frustrate you in 64 bit.

Hello there

System is up and running great, no problem with the install of Vista and all drivers are working perfectly. I am very happy with this build and thanks for all the suggestion.

Glad to hear it "happy motoring"...when you buy right and do not cut corners they always work. That's one of the reasons I may not get the right price all the time (heaven knows Larry points this out to me enough) but they always run for me.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone who help with this build Thank You. The computer has been running perfectly and I had no problems with it. SLI worked well but NVIDIA is still working on the drivers for Vista, but it gets better every time they update. Mylanta was right Vista + New Hardware = Happy User. Again Thanks and Keep up the good work.
