Well,I want to learn more from people's experiences about the good and the bad softwares in the market.I have had a couple of bad experiences with some programs and want to know from your experiences. This will let us be more aware of the quality of products.
Let me give you one of my experience. The software was RegCure (http://www.regcure.com).I had seen much hype about it all around and decided to try it.As soon as I scanned my computer,it gave me a list of 1600 errors that were bogging down my computer.I was curious and purchased a copy only to learn that it was version specific. It meant I couldn't upgrade with the older key and had to buy a newer version as soon as it would be released.A little disheartened,I entered the serial to see what was really slowing down my computer.According to it,my PC was completely sluggish and far from "optimized".I entered the serial and "fixed" the errors. To my surprise, instead of performance increase there was a tremendus decrease in my PC's performance.Error's started popping up and it would take eternity to load even a small program like Notepad.I tried to restore using the backup but no luck.I asked for a refund but again had to return empty handed. No optimization,no support,no contact,no refund.....I had been ditched.Naturally,I had to start from a scratch. From my experience, never buy RegCure again. If you want to listen to other stories similar to mine and want to know how the scam is organised and runned,go here:-

Please give me your opinion and views too.Thank you.

We have mentioned the evils of some of these registry tuners, tweakers, cleaners before. Many are downright dangerous.
As you mentioned, looks like you have done serious damage to your registry.
Providing little time has elapsed since you ran the program, replace the reg hives with the copies in the \repair folder or try a System Restore if you created a restore point. Short of that, a restore from backup image prior to running the program is in order.
The ONLY registry cleaning software I will use is JV16, been with it since day one.
If you search JV16 here in the forums you will find many posts.

Thanks for sharing that Goku
I keep out of my registry at all times
Dont know what i might find in there
Of course, that was a long time back when the incident occured.Probably 18 months ago. Now,I seldom clean my registry and even if I do,I use RegSeeker (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2579.html).It is the best registry cleaning utility I have ever come across.Try it and tell me how you like it.

Well, this one occured recently and the surprising fact is that nothing but Microsoft itself caused the problem!
A few months ago, probably in the month of February,I got sometime to shift my Internet connection to the laptop.I thought it would be great to update it as it was usually away from the net.I turned Automatic Updates on,checked all the services, opened Internet Explorer and zoomed to the site to update my computer. For three hours,I let the laptop update itself as I peacefully surfed the net. Then suddenly a message popped up saying that the laptop had finished installing the updates and I had to reboot to complete the process.I blindly clicked the Reboot Now button and waited to see my laptop's new zest and security. But to my shock, the computer just didn't boot itself. It just showed me the manufacturer's screen name as it usually shows and at the next screen,a flash of light and the laptop rebooted!I tried it several times but no luck,my computer had been ruined.I thought of a repair installation and no sooner did I searched for a CD that I remembered that Windows had came pre-installed and that too with a pirated copy of Windows!I was literally ruined.I ordered a new Windows CD and reached for the Repair option but it did me no good. The laptop as still in the same condition.Naturally,I had to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows.Lucky me that I had no confidential/important/private data on my computer or I would be dead of the shock. But still,I was badly struck by the disaster...
You will think that Automatic Updates your computer so how can it harm a computer?Well,I too thought this for some time until I found the following article:-

Goku its a good job it didnt explode lol:eek:
self destruct in 5 seconds:attention:
Haha...if my computer would have burst than I would have died on the spot due to the shock if not of the explosion.I was pitiful then and thought eternity was here!Of course, everyone feels like that at some point. Now that I have got the two supreme powers,KH and TSG,there is no virus/malware/spyware/trojan/complications that can harm my computer. Thanks to KH and TSG.

I believe the majority of us here turn automatic updates OFF.
Far too many instances over the years where an update has farkled everything.
I won't do any updates for at least a week or more after they come out and I have a chance to scan the web to see if there is a sour one in the bunch.
Again, too many instances over the years where MS had a big "oops" with a critical update.
Prior to running updates, I always make sure I have at least two good (verified) backups of the OS partition. I also set a restore point.
Update has improved over the years and you can note that the download now validates before the install. It used to be quite common to get corrupt updates before they changed that process.
Time permitting, I prefer to dl and install critical updates one at a time, let it reboot if required, and make sure all is ok before doing the next. At least you know which update caused the problem and if you have to, skip it on the next try.
Windows Update is 1000X better than it used to be but still has the potential to hose your system. Too many bad experiences in the past leave me on the better safe than sorry side.

Personally I believe a sledge hammer will more easily destroy your pc and also provide more rewarding experience than a registry cleaner. I never use them and always recommend against them. I do use jv16, but only to report program references in the registry to insure removal of same when uninstalling a program, never to "clean" registry. And I seldom respond to any threads on any forums where someone has used Registry Mechanic or Norton Futilities for any reason either.
On an idea borrowed from Dan here I set up a bench machine for testing any programs I might be concerned about. Since no popups can get through my system as I use Ad Muncher and native blockers to browsers, I don't have to reject any of those anyway. And I never use free programs of any kind, except trial versions. If it is not for sale, I don't use it. I also keep weekly image backups of entire system as well as hourly backups of any files and data that can change so I can restore back to where I was in 12 minutes anyway. And I always make a new image file before installing much of anything anyway, including a big batch of Windows Updates.
Before trying a new program, I usually post the question does anyone know it, as many do here and elsewhere anyway.
Wow dbarrow. You talked it in such a wise tone.Almost every word worth the effort.I too have experienced sour relationships with MS in the past.As I said,I had a pirated copy and I would frequently blabber about MS due to my not getting updates.I updated it once and that was it.My system was more than updated and there was almost nothing that could happen worse!Anyways it's past.Tell me more of your experiences so that I may learn more from you.

Goku i love your use of the English language
So colourful
Haha..mylanta.You don't know me.I love my computer more than any of my belongings because it has been with me for over 8 years and that too without a single repair/hardware replacement.Hitting it with a sledge hammer would be like hitting myself with one.I have got extremely low computer specs defying the fact that it still runs as smooth as butter. Here, check them out:-
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2,v.2096
Intel Pentium III Processor
551 MHz
128 MB RAM
That's all I have yet I have experienced so much....
BM,thanks for the compliment.Well,my English is good but compared to you all,it looks childish.Still,I try to express myself. It's lucky me that you can understand it.

Don't use pirated copies! .. ;)
Lina
Of course I don't! It was back in february when I didn't even know how Windows worked or what copy was installed. If you would see me, you would find it impossible to help me out. Gradually, I read things and improved my knowledge. Today, I know pirated copies are not good and obstruct a nation's development. Once again thanks to this site:-

No offense intended, Goka.* I don't believe your original post mentioned
how you acquired the computer and the operating system.....maybe I was
speed-reading again and missed it. If so, sorry!
I'm still not computer-savvy, but it's been a long time since I was a newbie.
Back then, I, too, would not have known much about pirated copies.
Live and learn.

I didnt mean to make more work for you .......:focus:
Its fun though having new members dont you think :bounce:
Cheer up Lina. No offence. In fact, I really found it funny imagining what would I look like if I posted under the name Goka. I myself do not believe this as I am writing this because I am xenophobic, adamant, claustrophobic and a die - hard pessimist. Still besides all, I am writing this from an optimist point of view. Though I feel a little away from myself now, I feel a little better to console, learn and help people out. Once again, cheer up. :)

LOL never heard a keyboard described as sexy
but yes it is very curvy lol
Well, we call it sexy here. For example, if we see a Ferrari on road or a new modified sports bike, we call it sexy rather than calling it stylish, curvy, etc. So that's really sexy and so is your Avatar.
