I had no idea someone could write a long winded painfully step by step paper longer than my lab report on how to install Linux on a Wintel machine. My lab was almost as painful of a read as this one.
I'll save everyone the trouble, stick ubuntu disc in, click install, follow the easy directions... done.

If the article gets someone to install linux I don't mind how it is written, anyway thanks for posting it and good luck to anyone who now tries linux out, I perfer kubuntu linux but it is a matter of taste I think(I don't like brown as a color and hate having the bin on the desktop windows-style but other then that it is a great distro) anyway the great advantage of a live cd is seeing if it works before installing so first boot up on it and if all is OK then hit the install button, answer the dead easy questions and let it do the rest, but whether ubuntu or kubuntu the distro is only as good as the forum that supports it so become a member of a forum too, there is the tweaking of the source code to allow mp3 to play, installing vlc for codexes and a few other things too, but once all these are done and one only needs to do them once, one has a no malware, no cost, clean system and the joy of being beyond you know who's EULA
