Awhile back there was a discussion as to how to limit a member's view to only the technical topics on KichenHardware (and bypass the chit-chat in the Non-Tech Topics category). At the time it was suggested that we may be able to develop an alternate Tech User profile to bypass the non-tech conversation.
Well ... we finally put it together. Currently, all members are in the Users group which allows access to all forums in the About This Site, Computer Help Desk, Specialized Forums and Non-Tech Topics categories. An alternate, optional Tech User group has been developed which can view only the first three categories. The Non-Tech Topics forums would not be visible and none of their posts would appear in the New Posts list.
All current members are in the standard User group; all new members will be included in the standard group. The new Tech User group will be strictly optional. A members can send me a message to opt-in to the Tech User group. This decision is reversible by sending me a second message to opt-out.
We at KH really appreciate your participation on the board and hope that this change will enhance everybody's experience here.
