I have previously mentioned TeamSpeak as I am familiar with it from online gaming.
It is free and the server can support it.
Excellent voice program.
Whether or not it would generate enough use to warrant, I don't know.
As it is a static server side program, running it on the server 24/7 would not cause any difficulties and it would be always available.
It would, of course, be PW restricted to users, for the benefit and use of users.

The PalTalk room was created for our users but also reaches out to a worldwide community through visibility.
We have enjoyed our many conversations with "outside" Users from all over the world and desire to keep that going.
PT, requires an Admin to open and close as well as moderation to prevent abuse.

I have no objection to a 24/7 TeamSpeak server and think it would be a handy addition to KH.
Smokey would have to install it as he handles all server side operations.

Well then the question is how many members would like to see this feature added to KH?

I will add a positive vote.
Note that TS is very configurable with "channels" that can be restricted. We can have a private Moderator channel and any sub-channels as we so choose.
There is a TXT box to type in if you don't have voice.
USERS must be registered with the server and have a PW to enter.

NOTE: Teamspeak would be an alternative meeting place to get together and chat ... about anything ... for KH members only,
whereas PalTalk Chatroom was created for the purpose of discussion of computer technical problem solving and an opportunity to attract new users to the forums. An "open" PalTalk room can quickly get out of hand and requires supervision which is why we only have it open during those times when we can all get together and have capable people on hand to monitor it. Besides, a 24/7 "permanent" PT room costs money and we are not into paying for something we only use once a week.

Relzuz, while I appreciate your offer to host the TeamSpeak server, I believe it must reside on our server with the Moderators as Admins to control membership and issue the logon credentials and passwords.

Just remember that if you do this it might put a large load on the server as this forum continues to grow.

Please explain the concept. I'm not sure how it works. Are you saying we could have a live chat anytime we get on the forum? Is a chat between two members open for other to hear? Sorry. I'm not all that computer savvy and this is the only forum I use. The only other one was the old "you know what" forum and I don't think anything like this was available.

I'm abstaining from the vote since I am not partial to voice or non-voice. I think we should have an irc room on efnet or something because 1, it will achieve the approach of outside visitors and two it is easy and consistent to the point that we can add operators and modify topics.

I'd be more likely to idle in IRC then teamspeak.

There are a couple IM type txt chat mods for vBulletin that can be found over at their forum.
We tried Yakalike, which as far as I know still works,

Usage was low and it didn't catch on.

TeamSpeak is a program.
It is free.
You have to install and configure it and open the program and logon.
It can run independent of the browser, 24/7 if you wish.
Voice and txt.
You can have numerous "channels" for different use including private and restricted ones.
Voice quality is actually better than PalTalk.

The difference:
PalTalk was intended as an open public forum and presence with a lot of exposure to non-members.
Teamspeak is a closed and private com that would be members only with user and pw logon.
There are no technical issues with it. I use it regularly for online gaming.

The question is popularity. If you want it and intend to use it, we can set it up in short order.
If the interest isn't there, why bother?
