For all of our experienced and not so experienced members:

Acronis is now in Beta testing of a new release of Acronis Home ver. 11 backup software.

Members of Kickenhardware.net have long been associated with Acronis and their full product line as beta testers for the product line. We are proud to say our suggestion and input has greatly influenced product development there. You may experience some of that influence in the features included in many Acronis products today.

As part of the KH beta testing community, we are happy to announce an invitation for more of you to join us in that effort.
Step 1.
Candidates can apply at:
http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/support/beta-testing/

Go to the site and register as a beta tester.

The current Beta is ATI Home ver.11.
Request your email notification with a download link and serial number to activate the software.

If you have any difficulties with that, PM Rich or myself and we will use our inside track to assist you.

Do not delay as this Beta phase ends 8/29

Step 2.
Use the Acronis Beta forums at
http://forum.acronis.com/
to input your replies and suggestions
There is also a bug report submission process in your instructional email.

While we will discuss the beta here in our forums, Acronis needs that input submitted to their forum as they are not following ours. We will keep an eye out for anything to pass along to them posted here.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join us in our long standing participation with Acronis and help them out. If you don't currently have or use any Backup software, this is also a great time to try out Acronis and explore the many features of the program.

Our friends at Acronis will be looking into some incentives for KH participants in the beta program on discounted Acronis software for future purchase.

Doug,
I downloaded Beta 2 at the forum, but how can you install it without a passcode?

I went over there the other day and signed up to beta test and they told me it could be two weeks before I'd know if they accepted me as a beta tester. So, the time limit is over before I get my copy? That was a waste of typing, in my opinion.

In did the same thing as Photolady and agree with her, a waste of my time..

If you forward me that email, I want to pass that along to the right person at Acronis.

There currently seems to be another glitch with their forum and getting posting permissions after registering.
That is being looked into.

KH members were specifically invited to join this beta so if there are problems in that process, let me know so I can pass them along.

Doug:

If I was install the Beta version, can I still use the registered version 10 on my PC? In other words, playing "Devil's Advocate", I don't want to have or be without a working copy of Acronis.

I added 11.0 beta to 2 existing systems and it replaced 10.0 but you always could uninstall and reinstall if you like. Actually I have never found Acronis betas to be destructive or corruptive in the past and have used some for years.

Rich; Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will sign up as a Beta tester. I'll let you know.

Dang it, I wish I remembered which day I did this signup. I have yet to hear from them either. Must have been Wednesday or Thursday. And I don't remember which email I gave them. :(

Hello PL

Just check them all :) . I have two e-accounts and I forgot that I signed up. woo hoo

Hi T I don't use my e-accounts for these things. Usually these types of things won't accept hotmail or gmail. I'm sure I used my main account, but if you got yours 2-3 days later, if I signed up on Thursday, it might come on Monday.

I also went to the forum and signed up there, then trying to enter one of the subforums, I get a no permission access message, even though it said I was signed in.

Well, I solved the problem on my end. I just closed out the site, then using the url Doug posted above, I went back in and was able to find the download and it's now on my harddrive.

Let me know any specific problems, such as forum posting permissions, so I can report them.
There appears to be some major malfunction with the whole process we are trying to get resolved.

The beta is a good working version to date but the problem reports are not getting into the forums due to the posting problem.

Yeah but they are still not getting back to you all with product code, so what good is it? If anyone has received an answer and can provide code, that would help everyone out here. Don't post it, instead PM it to me.

Doug, I used the email address that is in my profile here at KH. If you need it, that's where you'll find it. Otherwise, I can pm it to you.

I have yet to post over at those forums, but I can read all I want. :D

About 10 days ago, I signed up to be a Beta tester. I have not heard anything back from Acronis. Is this time frame usual or should I reapply?

dbarrow

Sam, yes, do that.
The last I saw, the Beta was to run until 8/29.
There was a Beta2 posted.
No further info on how long that is running or when the beta will conclude.

They FINALLY resolved the posting permissions problem with the Beta forum and I could post today.
This has been an ongoing battle with multiple emails all over the place and someone eventually got around to fixing that.
There are a minimal number of posts in the Beta forum as apparently, no one could post any replies.
Obviously, you don't get much response if nobody can post in the only area for input. A really bad mistake on their part but at least that got fixed.

Beta11 looks good but I have been sadly dissapointed in Tech Support which appears to be in the toilet.
I have yet to get any satisfactory replies to other Acronis issues other than standard form letters.

Tech Support used to be exceptionally good at quickly resolving issues but perhaps the staff there has not kept pace with growth of the product.
I had to give them a stern warning that poor Tech Support is a bullet in the heart of any product and their Tech Support, as of late, sucks!

I'm thoroughly confused. I'm reading that Acronis is on the market with their new version and today I received an E-Mail that I am to be included in the beta testing.
Can someone clear this up. I signed up quite a while back and never heard anything from them until now.

Ditto. I got an email from Acronis today stating they had accepted me as a beta tester and also signed up in August, exactly a month and a day ago.

There are a couple new betas coming up. Perhaps they finally got around to updating the beta tester database.
Not all of us got notice for the new beta.

I suggested the KH registered beta testers get an early preview as an opportunity to make sure the beta process and forum is working to avoid the cluster of the Home11 beta.

Ok what does that mean? LOL

They also sent this to my other email account I have that isn't webmail but is my other main account. If you need that I can pm it to you.

And another question. They sent me an email with some other software that's in beta versions, one which I thought I might try if I knew more about it. "Acronis True Image Echo" was the one of interest. What exactly is that and is it any good?

Hey I am away on vacation but is that the Enterprise Server?I also had something else a while ago that might have been I never tried. The Enterprise Server is a prize and you need to do that right away when you get it. I got that just before I left and put it in but my advice to all of you is they don't leave these betas yup long so download them now and debate later if you are going to use them.

Vacation?? Who says you "get" a vacation......LOL
Just kidding.
The list of betas are:
Echo Enterprise
Backup Server
Management Console
Agent for Windows
Agent for Linux
Groups Server
Universal Restore
and
SDK
Which the last one I have never figured out what that is, even Adobe and Microsoft have that, I still don't know what it is or if anyone needs it.

OK that is the newest version of Enterprise Server...Do Echo Enterprise, Universal restore and SDK...I am waiting for an explanation from them on what SDK is but this is a $1000 program and you can run the beta forever.....
You can use that for a single pc or a room full of them, it's there best version!

Normally SDK is a Software Development Kit. SDK's tend to have a variety of shell programs and tools to develop extensions to the basic product.

Thanks Terry. I googled what it meant, and still am not sure I understand why I would need it. But I did go ahead download that one, the restore one and the Enterprise one.

It is doubtful that you need it or can do anything with it. SDKs are normally built for software developers to design program extensions or complementary products.
