    Windows Explorer Crashes

Hi folks. I've got a system that is running Win7 Home Pro. Rich, do you recall who built this? Every time my wife opens Windows Explorer, the program crashes. Not necessarily the entire machine, but certainly the program. Yes, we've run multiple scans.

I'm thinking that perhaps a DLL or something else might have become corrupted. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I have thought about upgrading the OS to Win 7 Ultimate, which I assume will fix the problem, but haven't done so yet. Any thoughts anyone?

(Sorry if this posts twice. I got logged out in the middle of writing it)

Upgrading the OS doesn't affect the Core components (i.e. Windows Explorer is the same across all of the versions)

    Re: Windows Explorer Crashes

Does Windows Explorer continue to crash while in safe mode? If the issue existed in Safe Mode, perform Clean Boot troubleshooting to find the root cause of the issue.

Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password and click Continue. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup items check box. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All and press okay. Restart and check to see whether the problem is resolved.

If the problem no longer occurs, enable half of the services in System Configuration Utility. Click the Services tab, and then click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box. Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list. Click OK and restart computer. If the problem doesn't continue try enabling a few more services at a time and repeat until explorer begins to crash again.

As allheart said, boot into safe-mode (by continually pressing F8 on bootup).

Then you could try the system scan, which is a new feature. Open a command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.
